Minutes from Last Meeting

Minutes approved from last meeting. The only correction is that “Ana Lucia” should be “Lucia”. The corrections have since been made.

Status of the Reforma-DC Brochure

Additional historical background was given to Betty by Elena Tscherney(?) for the Reforma-DC brochure. We need more information on when the chapter was established. 1986 or 1987? We’re not sure when it was established, but it was established by her husband, Alex. We need to include in the brochure a statement about our local chapter, in terms of what we have done for our chapter, i.e., National Legislative Day, Piñatas de Recursos, Dia de Los Niños, since everyone knows about these events. These may get people to get motivated to participate.

President’s Report for the ALA Midwinter Meeting

AnaRita got a template on the report that is needed to present for future National meetings.

Status of the Reforma-DC’s website/list-serve

AnaRita will ask everyone on the list-serve if they’re members. She will ask them to renew membership and will also ask for permission to have their names on the Reforma website. She will also let everyone know what we’re doing as a chapter. When minutes are posted, we will let the list-serve know that they’ve been posted. We’re unsure who has moderator access to the Reforma-DC Chapter list-serve. Michelle will find out and let the board know.

AnaRita showed Michelle how to update the Reforma-DC website. Michelle will work on updating the website now that she has the tools to update the website.

Historian

Lucia has volunteered to be our historian.  AnaRita will donate a flash drive to Lucia so that all files can be saved on an electronic format.

Reforma National Conference

Will take place on September 18th-21st. Betty is going. AnaRita is going, but will be representing WebJunction.

Organization’s Networking

Michelle reported on the Reforma/ARL/ASIS&T Networking dinner that took place in early December.  Forty-four people had RSVP’d but only 10 showed up, which Michelle believed to be attributed to the weather. ASIS&T and Reforma would like to host this event again in the spring to see if the outcome would be better.  ARL was not represented at the dinner at the last minute. At the next dinner, we will have the Reforma-DC brochure to have for potential members. Michelle will touch base with the ARL contact (Jerome) to see about having future events with his group.

Maryland Division of Library Development Services (DLDS)

AnaRita submitted a proposal for a 1 day event, for at least 150-200 people, for DLDS, since she received funds. AnaRita will send out a “Save the Date” email.  She’d like for the event to be completed by the second week of May.  The subject will be on collection development and how to market Spanish Language collections.  Event would take place from 9-3:30pm. AnaRita needs to submit documentation on the event by May 30th.

AnaRita is trying to get speakers to come to this event.  If anyone has any more ideas on where to have this big event take place at, please let AnaRita know. Michelle will look at having this event at Discovery and ARL. AnaRita will check OCLC.  WebJunction Spanish outreach attendees, and all Maryland counties will be invited.  AnaRita will ask for all list-serv participants for ideas on locations.
