LEA's second edition bookfair at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 11-13 was a total success!  Thanks to the both ALA and Reforma we were able to host a booth this year once again.  Over 20 reformistas from both Orange County and Los Angeles Chapters volunteered over 200 hours to be present and let thousands of Angelinos know about public libraries.  Our strategy was to give away free books and bookmarks if they were able to show us their local library card. I have to say also that 90% of the interaction was in Spanish.

This event felt a lot like the FIL (Guadalajara International Book Fair), the vendor & publisher booths were amazing in detail and production with full fledged living rooms, state of the art electronics that infused energy and exitement for attendees and presenters.  However unlike in Guadalajara this event was free to the public and from walking distance from the train station; in turn we had  many thousands of Angelinos in attendance and you get a realistic picture of today's vivacious and growing Spanish book & cultural market.

Many local librarians, armed with credit cards decided to purchase books for their respective Public and Academic libraries here as well. In short we are recommending that if your administration doesn't allow foreign travel that you should come to LA next year and purchase your Spanish titles to take back to your library.  We will surely be looking for Reforma volunteers and possibly a professional presentation and/or author event.  For more information on how to get involved next year please email the Los Angeles Reforma chapter at reformala@gmail.com.
