Madeline Pena Statement

Dear Reformistas,

My name is Madeline Peña, bilingual social media librarian for the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL). I have been an active member of REFORMA for over four years and currently serve as President of the Los Angeles Chapter and Co-Chair of the Marketing Committee for RNCV.

I am originally from the Dominican Republic where I completed degrees in Graphic Design and Marketing and worked for private businesses and governmental organizations mostly in product management and TV production. After I moved to Los Angeles I worked briefly in the marketing field until I found my true love and passion—public libraries!

I started working in the Multilingual Collection Department at LAPL in 2007 and was exposed to extraordinary librarians (also to the best Spanish-language books published around the world) who motivated me to pursue a career in libraries and encouraged me to join REFORMA. I was fortunate to have fellow Reformistas mentor and inspire me through my MLIS studies. I completed the MLIS program from San Jose State University in 2013 and soon after was hired as a librarian to manage social media and digital marketing for the LAPL library system.

I would love to have the opportunity to keep giving back to this wonderful organization serving as Chapter Representative for the Western Region. If elected, I would work to unite chapters, foster networking between members and overall work to keep moving our treasured REFORMA forward.

Thank you

Madeline Peña
