Elizabeth Garcia Statement

Elizabeth Garcia has served the Queens Community in different capacities for more than 25 years.   After earning her MLS from Queens College, she quickly rose through the ranks to become Assistant Manager at one of the Community Libraries, and later she was promoted to her current position as Community Library Manager.  She has been a member of REFORMA for the last several years; she has faithfully attended almost all REFORMA Northeast Chapter meetings.  She was secretary of REFORMA Northeast; she was President of REFORMA Northeast.  Attended REFORMA National Conferences and American Library Association Conferences where she has participated in meetings and has helped represent her chapter. This year, she is in the Executive Committee of the REFORME NE in the capacity of Past President.  During the last several years she has played a vital role in recruiting new members.
 
  Mrs. Garcia is devoted to providing the community and especially children with the opportunity of learning through the gift of reading.  She is a published author of a children’s book, “El Viaje de Lucita” that was printed in Spanish and in bilingual format, English Spanish, receiving a positive review from School Library Journal.  Elizabeth often volunteers to present Spanish children’s programs at community libraries in Queens and has done many free Dia de los Niños/Dia de los Libros progams at Queens Library.  She is currently establishing a small library collection in a remote village in her native country of Guatemala.  
As a Chapter Representative Mrs. Garcia intends to focus on maintaining REFORMA’s mission; her plan is to capture a larger audience in order to promote library services and programs to the Spanish speaking communities.  It will be a great honor to serve as REFORMA Chapter Representative of the Northeast Region.  She is committed to the mission and vision of REFORMA cares profoundly about the Spanish Speaking community, and has a strong desire to be of service, she is the right candidate for the job.
