ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL VACANCY POSITION: Pharmacy Librarian AVAILABLE: December 1, 2013 The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library (HSL) seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented individual to join the User Services Department as the Pharmacy Librarian. The individual in this position is charged with participating fully in the Library's mission to connect people everywhere with knowledge to help them teach and learn effectively, assure quality health care, conduct vital research, and make informed decisions. Reporting to the User Services Assistant Department Head, the Pharmacy Librarian will identify information needs and provide proactive, client-centered information, education, and research services using a variety of methods and technologies for the faculty, students, researchers and staff of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (ESOP) http://pharmacy.unc.edu/. The Librarian will also be part of a team of liaisons who identify information needs and maintain outreach services to the four other professional schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health), to clinicians and patients at UNC Hospitals, and to the citizens of North Carolina. Expected services include: teaching in the PharmD curriculum (with distance education support of students on the Elizabeth City and Asheville campuses), attending faculty meetings, serving on ESOP committees, providing in person and virtual office hours, developing resource guides and instructional materials or other relevant tools and targeted services for research or course specific purposes. Librarians at HSL are expected to participate in professional and scholarly organizations and activities, pursue personal professional development, and maintain awareness of the evolving trends in library and information services. The individual in this position is expected to maintain current knowledge of: pharmacy information resources and content; pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical research and education; the tools used to manage retrieved information (e.g. RefWorks, EndNote); the tools used to create online user guides (such as Drupal and LibGuides); the changing trends in scholarly communications including open access and NIH public access; services for finding grant funding; and the evolving requirements related to the management of research data. QUALIFICATIONS Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science. At least two years of experience finding and using drug information in an academic health sciences library, drug information center, or pharmaceutical research setting. Demonstrated experience with innovative uses of technology to teach, train or provide instruction. Demonstrated ability to support a diverse user population and to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a diverse group of colleagues. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and set priorities in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development. Preferred: Understanding of the pharmaceutical research and development process. Subject expertise in a related scientific discipline. Course work, continuing education or degree in instructional technology or adult education. Experience using one or more bibliographic formatting programs, e.g., RefWorks, EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, or Papers. Knowledge of scholarly communication and open access initiatives, e.g., National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy and compliance, National Science Foundation (NSF) data management plan requirements. Demonstrated experience working on systematic reviews, meta-analyses, or other comprehensive searches. Knowledge of finding tool(s) for grant or foundation funding, e.g., COS Pivot, Foundation Directory Online.
