Classification Benefits: The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits to eligible employees, which includes medical and dental insurance, a vision-care plan, life insurance and dependent life coverage, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, and a long-term disability income-protection plan. Position-Specific Benefits:
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Master’s degree in library science, library and information science OR the equivalent from an accredited college or university; OR
2. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990), OR
3. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of item 1 above. (Applicants making application on the basis of equivalency must submit the Supplemental Application for Equivalency Determination form in addition to all other required materials).

Experience Required: • Minimum of two (2) years recent professional experience in an academic library (preferably in community college), with an emphasis on library instruction; OR
• For recent library school graduates, a specialization in library instruction and/or academic librarianship.
• Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desired Qualifications: Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating a high level of professional expertise on the basis of:
• Degree from an A.L.A.-accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of current teaching pedagogies and experience designing and implementing active learning activities.
• Knowledge of information competency instruction, traditional and online.
• Knowledge of print and electronic information resources and services.
• Familiarity with contemporary issues and trends pertaining to libraries and technology.
• Ability to work collaboratively with library staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: • Coordinate and teach a dynamic library instruction program of workshops, instructional sessions, credit courses, both traditional and online.
• Develop, expand and assess the library and college’s information competency program.
• Collaborate with faculty on assignments and integration of information competency into the college curriculum.
• Participate actively in the curriculum development process.
• Design and produce curricular materials, research guides, tutorials, and other instructional resources in a variety of format.
• Provide reference instruction and information service to students, faculty, staff, and college community.
• Participate in collection development for print and electronic resources.
• Serve on college committees and participate in college-wide activities.
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject-matter area and in effective teaching/learning strategies.
• Assignment may include evening and/or weekend hours.

A screening committee will review application materials which are complete and received by the filing deadline. A limited number of applicants will be invited to the District for an initial interview at their own expense. Possession of the minimum qualifications does not ensure an interview.

Additional Classification Information:
Contractual Duties and Responsibilities: Each faculty member shall:
1 – Comply with their individual workload assignments.
2 – Take responsibility for curriculum and program development, updates, and technical/program reviews.
3 – Read, respond to, evaluate all student work, and report final grades to Admissions, Records, and Enrollment Services by an announced deadline each semester.
4 – Respond to student academic concerns.
5 – Report all personal absences to the Dean.
6 – Participate in program review and college accreditation processes as appropriate.
7 – Complete his or her Flex obligation, calculated at 4.2 hours per Flex day as designated in the Academic Calendar.
