December 19, 2013 ACADEMIC POSITION PROFILE APP. 213 TITLE: Head, Access & Delivery Services
Rutgers University Libraries
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Rutgers University Libraries seek an innovative, forward thinking, service-oriented librarian to direct library operations that provide users with access to library spaces and materials. This position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Research & Instructional Services and oversees 58 FTE staff (7 direct reports) across access services/circulation, stacks maintenance, document delivery & interlibrary loan, reserves, imaging services, shipping & receiving, and media services within the New Brunswick libraries. Additionally, this position coordinates systems, policies and procedures supporting access and delivery services across all of the Rutgers Libraries.
The Head, Access & Delivery Services will
ï‚· Develop, plan, implement and assess services in support of the curricular and research needs of the University
community;
ï‚· Coordinate training and education to model and maintain high, user-centric standards of service;
ï‚· Analyze use of on-site collection, document delivery and interlibrary borrowing to guide collection development
and management planning;
ï‚· Participate in ongoing and strategic planning related to library use, collection distribution, and service provision;
ï‚· Represent the Libraries with state and national library cooperatives including CIC, SHARES, OCLC, New Jersey
Library Network, METRO, PALCI and RapidILL.
This is a tenure-track faculty position, requiring publication, research, and active participation in professional associations. It is an ideal opportunity for a librarian with vision and initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent, and a minimum of five years library experience, including supervision of staff and management of one or more relevant library units (listed under Responsibilities above), are required. A record of scholarly activity and achievement related to access or delivery services is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong service orientation; possess the ability to foster communication, collaboration, and cooperation; and operate with autonomy, flexibility and good judgment. Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity is required. Candidates who have had successful experience in the design and delivery of services for diverse populations will be given preference. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
SALARY/STATUS: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
BENEFITS: Faculty status, twelve-month appointment, retirement plan, life/health insurance, prescription drug, dental
and vision plans, tuition remission, 22 vacation days annually.
LIBRARY PROFILE: The Rutgers University Libraries, comprising libraries on the University’s Camden, New Brunswick, Newark and Health Sciences Newark campuses, all reporting to the Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian, operate as a unified library system with coordinated public, technical services, and collection development programs including digital initiatives and a pioneering institutional repository. The Libraries have highly valued staff of about 300 who are committed to developing innovations in access services, information literacy and digital initiatives. The Libraries operate with a budget of $28 million and outstanding collections especially in jazz and New Jerseyana. The Rutgers University Libraries are a member of ARL, CRL, Lyrasis, Metro, NERL, and VALE, and use Sirsi Dynix and OCLC as primary bibliographic utilities and Fedora repository software. The combined enrollment across all four campuses is more than 65,000 students from all 50 states and more than 115 countries working toward degrees in 33 schools and colleges with an overall emphasis on arts and sciences. The Rutgers University New Brunswick campus is the largest of the three regional campuses, supporting over 41,000 graduate and undergraduate students, in approximately 100 undergraduate programs, more than 80 graduate/professional programs, and 60 doctoral programs as a Carnegie


Classification Research University (very high research activity) campus.
