Position Information Benefits Supplemental Questions
This is an entry level Librarian position that provides reference, readers' advisory, and programming services for youth and their families in a diverse community; participates in general library functions including collection maintenance and development; and performs operational duties. Specific duties include:
providing reference, information and readers' advisory services;
planning and providing programs for youth such as story times, book talks, school visits and book discussion groups;
participating in the maintenance of the youth services collection;
participating in the systemwide Youth Services Team and other teams as assigned; and
assisting customers in the use of library resources.
Supervision is received from the Branch Manager. The Arlington Public Library is looking for people who are youth and customer service oriented, energetic, enthusiastic, and tech savvy.

Minimum: Master's of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited college or university.
Substitution: A Librarian's certificate issued by the Virginia Board for the Certification of Librarians may substitute for the Master's degree.
a) conducting programs for youth, especially programs for children from birth through age 3 and developing early literacy programs and collections;
b) using social media to promote the library and its services;
c) providing customer service;
d) graduate or undergraduate course work in youth services or literature, educational programming techniques, or child/adolescent development; and/or
e) working with limited English speaking youth and families.

Youth Services at the Shirlington Library, Arlington, VA. This 40 hour position's schedule is determined by the needs of the location and includes some evening and weekend work.
Youth Services at the Cherrydale Library, Arlington, VA. This 30 hour position's schedule is determined by the needs of the location and includes some evening and weekend work.
This position is part of a broad band, competency-based pay pilot. Entry salary within the pay band is based on a review of qualifications and experience; Pay potential will be based on performance and employee development.
