The University of Texas Libraries (UT Libraries), The University of Texas at Austin, seeks an experienced and service-oriented colleague for the position of Head Librarian, Acquisitions Services. The position oversees and coordinates the operations and processing phases of acquisitions resources for the UT Libraries. The Head Librarian, Acquisitions Services, serves as a member of the management team within the Collections and Technical Services division of the UT Libraries. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, or as arranged with the supervisor, for a total of 40 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
     â€¢     Administrative oversight of all acquisitions processes for materials in all formats along with the accompanying fiscal responsibilities.
     â€¢     Provide leadership, expertise and management for acquisitions duties assigned to the unit.
     â€¢     Manage the approval and selection plans, firm orders, blanket orders, e-books, and demand-driven acquisition (DDA) for the Libraries.
     â€¢     Communicate with external providers, including publishers, vendors, content providers and technology suppliers.
     â€¢     Serve as a resource for the rest of the UT Libraries on acquisitions-related functions and foster relationships with internal customers.
     â€¢     Seek and identify new approaches to management, organization and delivery of content resources.
     â€¢     Oversee coordination and administration of: the OpenURL link resolver (360 Link); electronic resource management system (360 Resource Manager); electronic resource assessment tool (360 Counter); web-scale discovery service (Summon); and acquisitions and serials modules within the integrated library system (Sierra).
     â€¢     Supervise 2.0 FTE professional staff and oversee management of a department of 14.0 FTE support staff.
     â€¢     Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program. Familiar with fund accounting and library collections budgets. Minimum 3 yrs supervisory experience with demonstrated commitment to training and staff development. Experience: overseeing e-resource management tools; with e-book business models and workflows in a library environment; managing library approval plans; assessing and/or implementing new acquisitions (ACQ) technologies and processing workflows; working with providers and vendors; working with an integrated library system's ACQ and serials modules; with MS Office applications, i.e. Excel. Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to: manage priorities and projects effectively; work well under pressure; meet deadlines; work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse groups of staff in a complex and changing environment. Demonstrated: experience managing ACQ workflows in an academic library; aptitude for detailed work including strong problem solving skills; commitment to responsive customer service; knowledge of operational needs of ACQ processes, best practices and trends and ability to communicate that understanding. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications: Five or more years of experience managing an acquisitions department or area of acquisitions in a large academic library. Experience: working with Innovative Interface's Sierra acquisitions and serials modules; working with Serials Solutions 360 Link, 360 Resource Manager, 360 Counter, and Summon; with acquisitions in a consortial environment; with demand-driven acquisitions (DDA). Knowledge of collection development principles in an academic library setting. Familiarity with best practices for academic library licensing as well as with copyright. Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging, classification, and discovery tools, including OCLC.

Salary and Benefits: $52,762 – $79, 142 negotiable depending on qualifications.  No state or local income tax. Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive major medical, dental, vision, life, and disability). Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs are also available.
