Instruction Librarian
University of Houston Libraries

The University of Houston is seeking an energetic and innovative instruction librarian to join the instruction team within the Liaison Services department and as a member of the Instruction Management Committee. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively within the Instruction Management Committee and with liaison librarians to influence programmatic initiatives focused on university-wide information literacy learning outcomes, strategic targeting of high impact classes, and the development of a robust online learning curriculum. The successful candidate will also collaborate on the design, teaching, and assessment of library instruction curricula for several multi-section undergraduate courses including English composition, engineering technical writing, public speaking, psychology research methods, and more. In addition, there will be a strong emphasis on utilizing active learning techniques as well as mentoring and training teaching librarians on pedagogy and assessment strategies. The position reports to the Coordinator of Undergraduate Instruction and Outreach.

Qualifications:
Required –
·        ALA-accredited Master’s degree

·        Demonstrated excellent communication skills and strong service orientation

·        Demonstrated interest or coursework in library instruction

·        Knowledge of instructional strategies

·        Familiarity with active learning techniques

·        Familiarity with instruction assessment practices


Preferred –
·        Classroom teaching experience


Salary: $52,000 to $54,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.              

Library Information: The UH Libraries are a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, the Hathi Trust, the Council on Library and Information Resources, the Digital Library Federation, and the Texas Digital Library. The campus libraries provide access to over 3.1 million volumes. Total staff includes 69 professionals and approximately 135 support staff.
