Clark Library for Maps, Government Information and Data Services The University Library invites applications for an exceptional opportunity for collaboration and innovation, in an environment that is uniquely interdisciplinary in the library. The International Government Information Librarian for the Stephen S. Clark Library for Maps, Government Information and Data Services reports to the Manager of the Clark Library and is part of a team of seven librarians operating a merged service point in a newly constructed library within the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, the University of Michigan’s primary research collection for the humanities and social sciences. This position also requires and affords a commitment to a deeper understanding of the roles of each of the participating units. Subject liaison and collection development responsibilities: Serve as selector for international documents and as Library's liaison for intergovernmental depository programs including United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization and European Union. Act as subject liaison to the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and Hatcher Graduate Library Subject Selector for Public Policy. Assist in identifying collection development needs in the spatial and numeric data collections. Provide in-depth reference assistance to users: Assist and instruct users (in person at the Clark Library Reference Desk; by telephone; and in response to electronic reference queries through the Ask Us virtual reference service, and research consultations on the use of the library and its resources with emphasis on government information, data and maps. Participate in instruction: Design and teach workshops on locating and using government information, particularly on policy research, IGOs and data resources. Create new workshops on an as-needed basis for the Clark Library workshop series. Website content creation and management: Create and maintain web pages as needed. Collaborate with website content managers to create a work-flow for updating content. Create and edit LibGuides as needed for selected topics. Participate in University Library and campus planning activities, committees and task forces as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS Required: · ALA-accredited Master’s Degree. · Demonstrated experience working with government information and policy research in an academic library setting, including reference. Knowledge and familiarity of IGO publications and databases including statistical databases. · Strong reference and communication skills. · Experience in professional activities related to government publications and/or data services. · Demonstrated ability to develop and offer workshops, tutorials and course-specific instruction for varied audiences. · Strong commitment to meeting the needs of users and diverse user groups in a rapidly changing academic library environment; ability to work well with a wide variety of faculty and students. Preferred: · Experience with the United Nations depository program · Facility with a wide variety of data sets, including US Census, GIS and geospatial data. Ability to identify appropriate data resources. · Demonstrated experience with data management and use in a variety of contexts. · Demonstrated ability to provide reference and consultation for geographic information services and SPSS, Stata, SAS or R in an academic library. BENEFITS, RANK, & SALARY It is anticipated that the position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Librarian level; final rank and salary are dependent on experience and qualifications. Librarians receive 24 days of vacation a year, 15 days of sick leave a year with provisions for extended benefits, as well as opportunities for professional development and travel.
