UTSA Libraries Project Archivist
The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries is seeking an experienced, energetic, and self-motivated archivist for a 24 month term Project Archivist position to appraise, arrange, and describe the records of the Southwest Voter Registration Project/William C. Velásquez Institute. The 500 linear-foot collection contains information on every aspect of the organization’s operations from 1974 through 1994 and includes extensive data and research on elections and Latino voters; project and research files; documentation on voting rights lawsuits; voter exit polls; population studies; newsletter; and redistricting maps.
Duties
•     Create a basic inventory and developing a processing plan
•     Appraise records and make recommendations for retention and disposal
•     Arrange and describe records in accordance with professional standards and best practices
•     Identifies preservation and conservation issues that need to be brought to the attention of Special Collections staff
•     Ensures all descriptions comply with DACS and created EAD finding aid
•     Directs and oversees day-to-day work of a project assistant and student worker(s)
Required Qualifications
•     ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science with a specialization in archives OR an ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science with advanced course work in archival theory and methodology.
•     A minimum of two years experience arranging, describing and processing archival records.
•     Experience with current archival descriptive practices such as DACS and EAD.
•     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•     Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
•     Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•     Capacity to organize and prioritize work in a deadline-oriented environment and provide written progress and status reports.
•     Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly.

Preferred Qualifications
•     Certified Archivist designation from the Academy of Certified Archivists.
•     Minimum professional or full professional Spanish language proficiency.
•     Experience processing large or complex collections.
•     Experience dealing with privacy and access concerns in archives.
•     Knowledge and experience with scanning equipment

Salary:
$43,104(flexible, depending upon qualifications). This is a full-time A&P, benefits-eligible position.
The UTSA Libraries Special Collections preserves the legacies of UTSA, San Antonio, and South Texas through a rich array of primary sources. Strengths of the collections include Mexican American activism, women and women’s history, LGBTQ communities of South Texas, Mexican culinary history, UTSA’s institutional history, San Antonio history, and Urban Development. The department has a growing digital preservation program, is a leader in social media outreach and web archiving, and actively engages with current and retired faculty.
The John Peace Library is nearing the end of a four-year renovation process informed by fresh thinking on collection management and student intellectual engagement. The libraries are well-integrated into the intellectual life of campus through active partnerships with the Writing Center, Teaching and Learning Center, and Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success.
