Berwyn(IL) Public Library
Department Head
Full-Time; 40 hr/week

Do you jump out of bed each morning thinking about how you can get the right book to the right person at the right time? Can you inform teens about career options while encouraging them to design a library space that appeals to them? Do your reading taste run from Alcott to Zane—yes, that Zane! Are you constantly looking for ways that technology can help you better serve readers? If you answered yes to all these questions, we invite you to apply for an exciting opportunity with the Berwyn Public Library.

Reporting to the Library Director, the Head of Readers’ Advisory and Teen Services will focus on providing quality Readers’ Advisory and Teen activities. We are seeking an enthusiastic leader who is eager to guide our Readers’ Advisory and Teen departments as these departments meet the challenges of serving our community of readers wherever they are and developing interactive services and programs for teens. This person must be a go-getter who will work tirelessly—even on weekends—to provide fun and engaging books, programs and services. The position will also be responsible for overseeing the development of book displays and facilitating book groups, events and reading programs.

The successful applicant will be a qualified library professional with strong readers’ advisory skills; have acquired an MLS degree prior to hire; knowledge of literature and current reading trends among teens and adults; solid team-building skills; the ability to staff, develop and implement program for teens and readers; the ability to provide leadership, training and guidance in the areas of readers’ advisory and teen services; who will maintain current knowledge of technologies and services relevant to the populations served; and who has experience in using social media for promotion and marketing.
