Job Description The Fort Worth Library is seeking applicants for the position of Parent Engagement Specialist (PES) for the Youth & Teen Services unit located at the Central Library. This position is responsible for developing, planning and implementing parent education classes for the Fort Worth Library System, Early Childhood Matters program. This position works closely with three other PESs and an Early Education Specialist to develop and present curriculum topics for parent engagement classes; participate in bilingual story times throughout the Library; host outside presenters, serve as part of the programming team in brainstorming, creating and presenting educational programs for youth, pre-school through age 12, and their adult caregivers; participate in community events; and more. As a member of the Youth and Teen Services Team (YTS), this person actively participates in the planning and implementation of the Worth Reading Program;and is regularly scheduled to work on the Information Desk in units. This position reports to a Public Education Program Coordinator. The selected candidate will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, excellent customer service skills, be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with/in family support programs; and be able to work with youth and families that represent diverse lifestyles, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds. In addition candidates must possess strong Internet search and computer skills; and is actively engaged in learning about new trends and developments related to serving youth and their families. REQUIRED Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Early Childhood Education, Health Education, Youth Development, or relevant field, PLUS two years of experience in developing and implementing educational programs/classes for adult caregivers related to early childhood care and early learning; and marketing and presenting programs to community groups and at special events. Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation to perform job assignments at various locations within the City of Fort Worth. WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental Conditions: Office environment with travel to various locations; requires working closely with others; automobile travel within the city required; irregular work hours. Physical Conditions: Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for extended periods of time; general manual dexterity; adequate eyesight, speech, and hearing required; must be able to operate assigned equipment/vehicle; lift and carry audio/visual equipment. Job Preferences Master’s degree in early childhood development, elementary/secondary education or relevant field Experience working in or with family support programs or developing programs for adult caregivers Bilingual skills English/Spanish Strong customer service experience needed Microsoft Office (Excel/Outlook/Word) computer skills are essential Conditions of Employment Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver’s license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement. You will be paid by direct deposit only.
