Search for the University Librarian
Seattle, Washington

Seattle University (SU), a highly-ranked, independent, Jesuit-Catholic institution adjacent to downtown Seattle, seeks a forward-thinking and inspired leader to serve as its next University Librarian (UL). 2010 saw the opening of an integrated, state of the art facility that has been well-received by the university's faculty, students and staff, and has become the hub of academic and scholarly life on the campus. Following the successful tenure of the outgoing UL, the incoming leader will have the opportunity to guide the SU Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons (the Library) to its next level of achievement and national distinction.

The Library serves as a strategic asset for the high quality of scholarship and learning conducted by SU's 740 faculty and 7,400 students, and opens a portal to academic excellence for the most ethnically and economically diverse university student body in the Pacific Northwest. Seattle University Library is one of 38 consortium libraries in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Students take advantage of reciprocal borrowing privileges and currently have access to 28 million books and media.

Reporting to the provost, the UL will serve as a key voice for the Library on and off campus, including active engagement within the Orbis Cascade Alliance consortium. As part of the University's effort to realize the full potential of the Library and establish it among the nation's finest academic libraries, its new UL will be called upon to:

•     Develop and execute a dynamic and strategic vision for the future of the Library
•     Lead and manage a team of excellent library faculty and staff
•     Serve as an ambassador and advocate for the Library to internal and external audiences
•     Bring forward and support the implementation of technology that advances information access, student learning and scholarship; and
•     Manage and promote the Library's physical facility, budget, resources, and collaborations.
