YOU'RE INVITED TO APPLY : The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Free Library (MCFL) are announcing a recruitment for an Education Initiatives Coordinator (Senior Librarian) to manage the system-wide education and learning initiatives and run the South Novato branch library located in the Community Education Center of the Hamilton area of Novato. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed term, full time, or part time positions that occur while the list remains active.
MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY (MCFL) : With a mission to engage the community to explore, imagine and innovate, the MCFL provides innovative library services that foster lifelong learning. The MCFL serves the unincorporated areas of Marin County, as well as the cities and towns of Novato, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Marin City, and Ross. Through the activities of the County’s ten-branch library system, the MCFL offers an expansive collection; digital content; a state-of-the-art MakerSpace, advanced technology; Wi-Fi; special programming for children, teens and seniors; literacy programs serving both families and individuals; and a deep commitment to partnering with local school districts to improve educational outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations.
THE POSITION : Reporting directly to the Director of Library Services, the Education Initiatives Coordinator will develop, coordinate and provide system-wide leadership in delivering programing and outreach services to K-12 schools throughout the Marin County Free Library’s service area. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the South Novato branch library, this position is responsible for effectively cultivating and managing strategic partnerships supporting the education initiatives of MCFL. This position will also coordinate the partnership with the MakerSpace, New Media Learning and the Novato Unified School District. The position is responsible for managing a small branch library including supervision of professional and para-professional staff, collection management, programming and outreach activities at the South Novato location. IDEAL CANDIDATE : The ideal candidate for this position is an innovative leader with knowledge of current trends and technologies in libraries, 21st Century learning initiatives, and new learning models such as project-based-learning and immersive learning environments. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the library fulfilling its vision to be a critical component in improving educational outcomes for all students in Marin County and will thrive in a team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate actively develops and maintains community contacts to promote library services and provides leadership, professional expertise and direction in the planning, structure, strategies, execution and evaluation of the library’s educational initiatives. The ideal candidate has a proven record of successful library and education relationships and has formed meaningful and productive partnerships with K-12 schools, preferably resulting in formal Memorandum of Understandings, agreements or contracts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Equivalent to an American Library Association approved Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Services, or similar curriculum and three years of experience as a professional librarian. Overall, work experience must include two years of supervisory experience, which may have been obtained in a position other than professional librarian. Experience using current technology in the primary area to which assigned is required. Experience in a public library setting and/or in an education setting is highly desirable, as are bilingual English/Spanish skills.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE : Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination process may consist of a highly qualified review, supplemental application screening, online assessment, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine which candidates’ names will be placed on the eligible list. In the event that additional testing is not conducted, applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be notified to contact the department in the order their applications are received by the Human Resources Department.
