Reference Instruction Librarian, University Library - Westville, IN(Job Number: 1701493)

Description

Essential Duties:

Provide reference assistance and instruction to students, faculty and community users in identifying, locating, evaluating and using information about Library collections and services.

Attend departmental meetings to acquaint yourself with and collaborate with deans, department heads and faculty in order to educate them on what the library has to offer in areas of their research and to develop, create and deliver information literacy sessions for their students in the areas of business, science and mathematics as well as other areas when necessary.

Work closely with faculty to create learning modules and LibGuides, pathfinders and other aids to contribute to the success and retention of students in their scholarly endeavors.

Work with other library reference team on collection development and stacks maintenance initiatives and projects, participate in collection development and reference meetings on a monthly basis.

Serve on university committees and provide outreach to both university and surrounding community through programs and committee participation related to university initiatives.

Attend and present at library and library-related conferences, seminars and workshops to enhance professional development.

Seek other opportunities to enhance professional development such as research and writing for publication in scholarly journals, and presentations at refereed conferences and seminars.

Collaborate on projects with director and other colleagues to advance library initiatives within the Information Services Division at both campuses as well as Purdue Northwest as a system.

Work with other librarians and library staff to promote library at New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, New Faculty Orientation, National Library Week, and other events sponsored by the University and other clubs, offices and entities affiliated with the university.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MA/MS degree required. ALA accredited master's degree in library or information science. Undergraduate degree in physical sciences or management preferred. Two-years experience in academic or research library settings with an understanding of information literacy instruction. At least two years’ experience conducting information literacy sessions. Ready knowledge of general reference sources and electronic information sources; clear understanding of research process. Must demonstrate ability to assist students with research both in a classroom setting and one-on-one reference consultations. Experience creating LibGuides preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong commitment to responsive, innovative, user-focused library service. Must demonstrate the ability to adapt and work creatively in a changing environment. Selected candidate will be expected to work evening and weekend hours. As business needs arise employees may be required to travel between campuses and/or be reassigned to a different campus location.
