Social Sciences Collection Strategist/Political Science Librarian Collection Development & Management Program

The University of California San Diego Library seeks applications from highly motivated, innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented professionals to join the Library as our Social Sciences Collections Strategist/Political Science Librarian (Assistant, Associate or Full Librarian). This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Library’s Collection Development & Management Program. The University of California San Diego Library is committed to supporting academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

Responsibilities of the Position Social Sciences Collection Strategist Key responsibilities include:
•     Provides leadership and guidance in transforming the nature of collection development for the social sciences to include research data, born digital resources, and strategies that increase openness and access.
•     Oversees budget allocations and expenditures, including new continuation requests, for social sciences funds.
•     Guides, supports, shares information with, and provides collections related direction to Subject Librarians in the social sciences.
•     Collaborates with the Library’s Collection Strategy Team to develop, review, and assess innovative projects that improve sustainability of the Library’s collection investments. Contribute to decision-making involving renewals, new title selections, and cancellations on local and UC-wide licensed resources.
•     Representing subjects in the social sciences, actively participates in the Library’s Scholarly Communication initiatives to identify and assess open access investment options.
•     Responsible for the management planning for the physical collections in the social sciences. Serves as a member of the Library’s Collection Management Working Group to coordinate weeding and space reduction projects for existing analog collections. Provides input and recommendations in managing physical collections in context of UC Shared Print Initiatives and other regional and national consortia.
•     Represents the Library on relevant UC-wide Common Knowledge Groups. Collaborates on the selection, renewal, and assessment of shared licensed resources. In some cases, is responsible for negotiating licensing terms and agreements for resources with publishers and other UC Libraries.
•     Directly supervises the Government Information Librarian. Closely collaborates with Data Services and GIS Librarians on collections issues.

Subject Librarian for Political Science
•     Serves as the primary contact and information resource on library services, resources, and policies.
•     Provides research consultation, reference, and instruction services to support undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research, teaching and learning endeavors. Serves as a resource for information on data services, scholarly communication, and digital scholarship.
•     Develops collections to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the students and faculty.

•     Collaborates with other subject librarians in the Social Sciences to support interdisciplinary undergraduate, graduate and faculty researchers in finding, analyzing and managing data, and promoting library data services.

Salary: Salary and level of appointment in the Librarian series commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the University of California pay scales.
