West Chester University Libraries seeks an innovative and enthusiastic librarian to join the faculty as our Student Success Librarian. The Student Success Librarian will provide vision and leadership to develop library services that support student success and retention through collaboration with colleagues within the library and across the university. The Student Success Librarian will be charged with building upon an already vigorous library instruction program. The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher who enjoys working with undergraduate students, especially those in their first two years of college, and will develop new initiatives to expand and further integrate library instruction into the general education curriculum, including a new first year experience course. The Student Success Librarian will lead the assessment of the program, with particular emphasis on how the program contributes to student success at the university. Additionally, he/she will serve as the libraries’ representative to other campus units that support student success.

West Chester University Libraries is an evolving organization, and flexibility is required. Active participation in the intellectual and administrative life of the Libraries and University and maintaining a record of professional contribution is expected. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position.

Responsibilities Include:

Student Success
?     Leads a general education instruction team comprised of faculty colleagues.
?     Teaches a substantial share (25+ per semester) of the library instruction sessions for general education classes and student orientations and coordinates the distribution of additional sessions among the members of the instruction team.
?     Serves as a member of the library assessment team and leads the assessment of the general education library instruction program.
?     Creates student learning outcomes and assessment materials.
?     Provides training for librarians on conducting library instruction sessions and assessment.
?     Creates reusable instructional materials (lesson plans, tutorials, etc.).
?     Partners with other departments and committees on campus to create initiatives that foster student success (e.g. Office of Student Success, New Student Orientation, University Writing Council, and Academic Development Program).

Subject Coordination and Research Assistance
?     Selects library materials in selected disciplines and serves as liaison to those departments.
?     Provides in person, chat, email, and telephone support at the Research Help Desk during assigned day, evening, and weekend hours.
?     Provides in-depth research assistance and instruction in selected disciplines.

Continuing Scholarly Growth
?     Demonstrates continued professional growth through publications, presentations, professional activities, and other contributions to advance the profession.
?     Engages in scholarship that includes research, scholarly, or creative activities required for tenure and promotion.

Service
?     Provides service to the library, the university, and the profession through committee work, conference attendance, or similar endeavors.
?     Participates in library and university governance (shared governance).


Minimum Qualifications:
?     An earned Master’s in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited institution.
?     Minimum 2 years professional experience in an academic library.
?     Substantial experience in and passion for teaching undergraduate students, particularly those in the first two years of college.
?     Educational background or demonstrated experience with instructional pedagogy and/or instructional design.
?     Demonstrated experience with creating and assessing student learning outcomes, preferably based upon the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
?     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
?     Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial academic environment.
?     Proven ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.
?     Successful completion of an on-campus interview process that includes a teaching demonstration.

Preferred Qualifications:
?     Experience designing and implementing instructional content and learning objects
?     Experience with collection development and departmental liaison activities
?     Second master’s or advanced degree.
