High St. West Chester, PA West Chester University Libraries seeks a forward-thinking, innovative and enthusiastic librarian to join the faculty as our Digital Collections Librarian. The Digital Collections Librarian will provide vision and leadership with the continuing development of a maturing digital collection program, establishing and implementing policies and procedures, enhancing user experience and improving Digital Collection workflows. Additionally, he/she will partner with constituents and stakeholders both within the Library and University as well as outside organizations and communities, working to provide seamless user access to digital collections in the library’s discovery layer and incorporate the digital content into courses, providing course instruction and research help around the materials. The successful candidate will understand digital asset management, digital production, management of workflows and best practices for digital collections, digital preservation and metadata standards. The Digital Collections Librarian provides research assistance and has collection development and liaison responsibilities. West Chester University Libraries is an evolving organization, and flexibility is required. Active participation in the intellectual and administrative life of the Libraries and University and maintaining a record of professional contribution is expected. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position. Rank and salary commensurate with experience. Rank and salary commensurate with experience. Salary based upon the schedule established in Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Responsibilities Include: Digital Collections ? Leads Digital Collection Initiatives Team for creation, maintenance, and stewardship of these digital collection materials. ? Manages West Chester University instances of and content in, including: ContentDM, Internet Archive, Islandora, and Digital Commons (bepress). ? Collaborates with Electronic Resources Librarian to incorporate digital collections content into the library’s discovery service (Primo). ? Collaborates with librarians and classroom faculty to incorporate digital collections. content into courses, providing instruction, and research help as needed/requested. ? Works with both internal and external digital collection constituents and stakeholders ? Promotes and markets digital collections. ? Investigates new digital asset management systems (DAMS). ? Investigates new hardware for digitization (scanners, cameras, etc.). ? Investigates and implements preservation technologies and techniques for digital collection content. ? Liaises and collaborates with regional consortia. ? Writes and maintains digital collections policies and procedures. Subject Coordination and Research Assistance ? Selects library materials in selected disciplines, such as the newly formed Digital Humanities minor/certificate, and serves as liaison to those departments. ? Provides in person, chat, email, and telephone support at the Research Help Desk during assigned day, evening, and weekend hours. ? Provides instruction on the use of the library through formal classes. ? Provides in-depth research assistance and instruction in selected disciplines. ? Works with other librarians to provide appropriate support for Library and University information literacy activities. Continuing Scholarly Growth ? Demonstrates continued professional growth through publications, presentations, professional activities, and other contributions to advance the profession. ? Engages in scholarship that includes research, scholarly, or creative activities required for tenure and promotion. Service ? Provides service to the library, the university, and the profession through committee work, conference attendance, or similar endeavors. ? Participates in library and university governance (shared governance). Minimum Qualifications: • An earned Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited institution • Minimum 2 years professional experience in an academic library or in digital collections. • Knowledge and application of relevant metadata standards for digital preservation and descriptive metadata standards such as: Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD, VRA Core, etc. • Demonstrated Project Management Experience. • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities. • Understanding of copyright and intellectual property considerations for digital collections. • Demonstrated understanding and management of digital asset management or digital repository systems such as CONTENTdm, bepress, Islandora, Omeka, etc. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial academic environment. • Proven ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff; as well as external (community organizations, donors, patrons, etc.) constituents and stakeholders. • Successful completion of an on-campus interview process that includes a presentation. Preferred Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience in marketing and outreach of digital collections. • Understanding of special collections/archival practices and theories. • Experience working with digitization vendors. • Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) through the Society of American Archivist (SAA). • Supervisory Experience. • Grant writing experience. • Second masters’ or advanced degree.
