Engineering (STEM-H) Librarian

West Chester University (WCU) Libraries invite applications for a tenure-track Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Health (STEM-H) Librarian to join our team of dynamic and creative librarians. Since Engineering is a new and growing program at WCU, this position is a wonderful opportunity to be an active participant in the further development of the university as a technological and economic contributor to the region.
Librarians at WCU enjoy full faculty status, including a 9-month contract, faculty pay scale, and same tenure/promotion process as classroom faculty. As a faculty librarian, maintaining both a scholarly agenda and record of service is essential for success.
West Chester University recently unveiled a new strategic plan, Pathways to Success, which focuses on student success as core to our university mission. WCU Libraries believe that we are a key player in supporting student success on campus. The Engineering (STEM-H) Librarian will contribute to this mission by supporting the new engineering programs and its allied disciplines. As a tenure-track faculty librarian, maintaining both a scholarly agenda and record of service is also required.

Job Description
Selects and assesses resources in support of an emerging engineering curriculum as well as allied disciplines in the sciences and health.
Contributes to student engagement and outreach efforts by coordinating with selected departments, particularly the new Biomedical Engineering Department, future departments in the growing engineering program, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, and Physics.
Works collaboratively and enthusiastically with other colleagues and community members including the Science Librarian, who will work closely in co-support of the departments of Biology and Nursing.
Delivers and assesses foundational, advanced level, and course-specific instruction sessions and information literacy workshops in engineering and other disciplines of responsibility.
Facilitates research consultations in both face-to-face and online formats with faculty, students, and other community members and groups. Maintains currency in emerging engineering fields to remain effective in this effort.
Develops and assesses digital learning objects for engineering and allied faculty and students.
Contributes to the advancement of University Libraries’ team efforts in scholarly communications, such as data management, open access initiatives, open educational resources, and entrepreneurship.
Participates in library, college, and university shared governance as a faculty librarian.
Remains abreast of current developments in library and information sciences and devotes time to research, scholarly activity, and service to the University, the public, and the profession.
Provides in-person, chat, email, and telephone support at the Research Help Desk during assigned day, evening, and weekend hours.
Collaborates within and beyond the Libraries on initiatives and projects to advance teaching and learning, maximize user experience, utilize instructional and engineering technologies, and measure educational contributions.

Continuing Scholarly Growth

Demonstrates continued professional growth through publications, presentations, professional activities, and other contributions to advance the profession.
Engages in scholarship that includes research, scholarly, or creative activities required for tenure and promotion.
A record of and/or interest in scholarship.

Service

Provides service to the library, the university, and the profession through committee work, conference attendance, or similar endeavors.
Participates in library and university governance (shared governance).


Application Requirements

Required

Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent).
Experience with Engineering information sources, including databases, technical reports, standards, and emerging online resources.
Demonstrated ability to clearly convey library skills to large and small groups, individuals, and online learners.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion.
The potential to achieve the requirements for tenure and promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service.
Successful completion of an on-campus interview process that includes a teaching demonstration.
Preferred

A degree or study in engineering.
Experience with data management, open access initiatives, open educational resources, and/or entrepreneurship.
Experience developing digital learning objects.

West Chester University offers a competitive benefits package. Rank and salary commensurate with experience. Salary based upon the schedule established the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, see page 8, pay range Q02 for the assistant professor scale.
