Position Description:
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Director, Film and Television Archive is a key senior administrator in the UCLA Library and has leadership, management, and strategic policy and planning responsibilities for the Film and Television Archive and oversees the activities in all areas of the Archive including collection development, curation, management, digitization, and preservation; content licensing; public programming; services provided in the Archive Research and Study Center; and Archive administration. The Director is responsible for organizational and program planning; budget management; coordination of activities with the UCLA Library and other campus units; directing and evaluating business and academic support functions. Working closely with the University Librarian, the Executive Director of Library Development, and senior management team, the Director develops fundraising strategies, stewards and cultivates donors, and writes proposals to support the goals and activities of the Archive.

The Director coordinates the work of the Archive with the rest of the UCLA Library, collaborates with UCLA Library staff, serves as a member of the senior management team, assures compliance with University policies, procedures, and audit standards as well as meeting legal and other relevant agency and organizational requirements.

The Director is a lead spokesperson at campus, UC systemwide, state, national, and international levels for issues and policies relating to the development, management, and preservation of film and television archives.

The Director ensures that the Archive and the UCLA Library actively participate in collaborative programs and services to collect, manage, and preserve film and television content, is informed of and influences global discussions about best practices in audiovisual content preservation and access, and fulfills the Library's fundamental mission of access to a rich and deep array of materials supporting UCLA's mission and academic priorities for education and research as well as broad public access to film and television content held in the Archive.

The UCLA Library is a campus-wide network of libraries serving the full range of teaching and research activities at UCLA. Its collections encompass more than twelve million volumes as well as archives, audiovisual materials, corporate reports, government publications, manuscripts, maps, microforms, oral histories, photographs, technical reports, and other scholarly resources. The Library also provides access to an extensive collection of digital resources including reference works, electronic journals, other full-text titles, and moving and still images.

The Film and Television Archive, a division of the UCLA Library, collects, preserves and exhibits film and television materials. It supports both research and instruction in media, entertainment and the arts, the social sciences and many other academic disciplines through its extensive collections of over 27 million feet of newsreels, 95,000 motion picture titles, 120,000 television titles and recordings of over 100,000 news programs. It provides access to materials for scholars and students, educators at all levels and film and television professionals as well as the general public.
