Division Executive Director

The College of Education at the University of Missouri (MU) seeks an innovative, experienced and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Division Executive Director (DED). This DED will serve as the executive in charge of the following academic units:
•     School of Information Sciences and Learning Technologies (SISLT)
•     Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology (ESCP)
•     Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA)

The Division consists of 9 graduate academic programs with 60 faculty and 29 professional staff.

Position Description: The Division Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and administration of the three units described above including oversight of academic programs, faculty evaluation, course scheduling, budget, support of faculty productivity and professional development, facilitation of innovation, support and implementation of the college’s continuous improvement efforts. The DED will encourage and support cross-disciplinary initiatives that build on the foundations of highly successful and nationally ranked academic programs. As an AAU member institution we place a very high value on scholarly productivity.   Each academic unit also has an Associate Division Director, who provides academic leadership within each unit under the supervision of the Division Executive Director. The DED position is a 12-month administrative position, while serving on the Dean’s Executive Council and College Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications: (1) A doctoral degree from an accredited university with a specialty in one of the academic areas represented within the division; (2) A distinguished record of scholarship and teaching that merits appointment as a tenured full professor, (3) administrative experience in an academic unit, and (4) demonstrated commitment to educational and cultural needs of diverse populations.

Desired Qualifications: (1) Experience with systematic continuous improvement, (2) success as a principal investigator or co-investigator on a federally funded project, (3) advanced training and professional development in higher education administration, (4) demonstrated success in entrepreneurial activities, and (5) successful fiscal and personnel experience.

The College of Education (COE) is ranked among the top doctoral granting colleges of education in the country. The COE recently completed a new strategic plan and is financially well positioned to invest in opportunities for innovative ideas in support of the new plan. Annual expenditures for externally funded projects are approximately $12 million with funded projects in research, instruction and public service. The research portfolio has increased significantly in recent years, and is poised for continued significant strategic growth. The College is a leader on the campus and is nationally recognized for its distance and online education programs.

MU is the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River and the largest of the four institutions in the University of Missouri System. In 1848, MU became the first public university in the nation to open a college specific to teacher preparation. Today, the College of Education has a student population of approximately 1,300 undergraduates and 1,600 graduate students with 88 tenured/tenure-track and 29 full-time non-tenure track faculty members. Salary/Starting Date: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Starting date is negotiable.
