Position Available for

Access Services Librarian

The University of Denver’s Penrose Library is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and service-oriented leader for the position of Access Services Librarian.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the planning, coordination, and administration of Penrose Library Access Services, a 24/5 plus weekend hours operation, supported by 17 benefited staff and 51 student staff. This department comprises: circulation; resource sharing services including interlibrary loan and document delivery; course reserves; and stacks maintenance for the library and a remote storage facility. The Access Librarian directs a wide variety of Access Services projects related to technology, space planning, and patron services, while managing and implementing related policies, including copyright. Serves in a leadership role as the facilitator of the Access Team and an advocate for the Access Department. Directly supervises four unit managers in Circulation, Reserves, Interlibrary Loan, and Stacks Maintenance. Must be flexible and willing to assist with Access service points as needed. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Student and Scholar Services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: ALA-accredited MLS degree. Two years of professional experience in library public services. Experience managing and supervising staff and/or students. Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in Access Services. Knowledge of and experience with an integrated library system. Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills. Strong project management skills and an ability to bring diverse groups to consensus. Solid commitment to library public services accompanied with a record of excellent customer service and inclusive excellence. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Detail oriented with skills to investigate, analyze, problem solve, and set departmental priorities. Evidence of commitment to professional development and scholarly activities through research, publication, and service to national and regional professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Professional experience in an Access Services area such as circulation, reserves, or interlibrary loan. Experience working in an academic library. Experience with Innovative Interfaces integrated library system. Knowledge of or experience with Atlas Systems products such as ILLiad or Ares.

SALARY, RANK, BENEFITS: Competitive salary. Faculty status, non-tenure track appointment, with rank depending on experience and qualifications. Faculty hired at the rank of Assistant Professor are required to apply for promotion to Associate Professor in or before the sixth year. An initial appointment above Assistant Professor is possible if experience, scholarship, and service are determined, through a faculty appointment process, to be consistent with library faculty guidelines for each academic rank.
