POSITION SUMMARY:
The University of Arizona Libraries Special Collections Team (SPC) seeks a Library Information Associate to process, preserve and make accessible archival and special collections materials. Incumbent works collaboratively with senior archivists, handles unique archival materials requiring tact, sensitivity and discretion, strong organization skills and ability to take initiative and adapt quickly to changing demands.

LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT: The University of Arizona Libraries advance the University's mission through the active contributions of knowledgeable staff who choose cost effective methods of acquiring, curating, managing, and connecting customers to information services and resources and providing education in their use.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS MISSION STATEMENT: The Special Collections Team of the University of Arizona Libraries acquires, preserves and provides access to unique archival and supporting materials with emphasis on the Southwest and US/Mexico Borderlands for individuals and communities of scholars.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time; Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Intellectually organizes and processes archival collections; developing a processing plan; establishing intellectual hierarchies; identifying preservation needs, handling and rehousing of archival materials and employing labeling schemas.
*Creates finding aids; researching and writing using DACS (Describing Archives a Content Standard), as well as assigning appropriate subject terms and knowledge of authority control.
*Supports creation of metadata and access points in coordination with the Delivery, Description and Acquisitions Team (DDAT) for archival materials; applying MARC format, Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Excel, Content DM, cataloging principles and practices, metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies and thesauri.

B. Team Work/Responsibilities:
*Actively participates in and follows-up on assignments from SPC and library-wide meetings, discussions and training sessions, SPC and library-wide projects and selection committees, or fills in for those on projects.
*Facilitates meetings and participates in decision making; makes presentations as needed; works collaboratively with team members for data collection, needs assessment and analysis to demonstrate quality of work, continually improve customer access, and for creating, maintaining and updating documentation of work processes.
*Participates in the libraries' performance management system by writing performance and learning goals, tracking progress, actively participating in developmental reviews of self and colleagues by following library and team guidelines and using Constructive Dialogue approach; receives coaching and mentoring from peers and team leader regarding goals, team quality standards, work processes and cross-functional team's project charges.
*Interprets library policies, procedures and regulations.
*Participates as a member of library selection teams.

C. Other appropriate duties as assigned including team/library projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree AND two years related library experience; OR Six years related library experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*Demonstrated project management skills related to processing archival collections; ability to work with a high level of detail and attention to accuracy.
*At least one year of experience processing digital archives and born-digital archival collections.
*Knowledge of one or more digital repository systems such as DSpace and CONTENTdm.
*Experience and understanding creating electronic finding aids (EAD).
*Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service, including the ability to take a proactive approach in meeting internal and external customer needs, coordinating with peers to meet customer needs, and initiating effective interventions to achieve customer satisfaction.
*Demonstrated initiative and use of good judgment, and solid analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills.
*Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
*Must be able to lift items up to 40 pounds and retrieve materials from shelves.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*Demonstrated ability to hire, train, coach, mentor and assess work performance of part-time employees (i.e., student assistants).
*Knowledge or experience with XML, MARC/AMC and non-MARC metadata schema, including Dublin Core.
*Demonstrated ability to acquire new tools and techniques.
*Demonstrated understanding of the types of records present in a library management system.
*Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and to work proactively, collegially, creatively, constructively and effectively to solve problems between teams, and with individuals on teams.
*Skill in assessing services for efficiency, effectiveness and meeting operational goals.
*Knowledge of OCLC/Worldcat systems.
*Ability to work with diverse people and serve a diverse population.
*Experience processing archival collections (materials include paper documents, photographs and varied ephemera) and apply appropriate professional standards following DACS rules.
*Excellent ability to follow through and handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions to ensure priorities are met.
*Ability to act with tact, sensitivity and discretion.
