Associate Director, Special Collections Library

University of Michigan Library

The University of Michigan, a leader in undergraduate and graduate education and one of the world's premier research universities, has prominent faculty, rigorous academic programs, and a diverse cultural and social environment. MLibrary is one of the top research libraries in the world and enjoys a reputation for innovation. Recent leadership examples include the launch of HathiTrust, an unparalleled opportunity for the creation of new services in support of the teaching, learning, and research mission of the University, and facility upgrades that support undergraduate learning, writing, and research. Situated in the heart of Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan is in a unique urban area with a small-town atmosphere and a vibrant cultural and intellectual sensibility.

The Special Collections Library at the University of Michigan Library holds internationally renowned collections of books, manuscripts, and archival and other material. It is home to some of the most historically significant treasures at the University of Michigan and includes in its holdings some 300,000 published volumes, approximately 6,500 linear feet of archival material, about 450 incunables, and more than 1,400 early manuscripts on vellum and paper. Notable collections and subject strengths include the papers of distinguished authors, poets, and filmmakers; Greek and Islamic manuscripts; American culinary history; anarchism, radicalism, and social protest; children’s literature; Philippine history; the early histories of astronomy, mathematics, and medicine; and transportation history.

Located in heart of central campus, on the 7th and 8th floors of the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, the Special Collections Library is open to the public -- to students, faculty, visiting researchers, and members of the community.
