DESCRIPTION: The Humboldt State University Library invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position as the Metadata Cataloging Librarian.

RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the Senior Assistant Librarian rank; however rank and salary are dependent on the appointee's qualifications and experience. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or an ALA-accredited degree from an equivalent program is required at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
- Two years of cataloging experience, including LCSH subject cataloging and authority file maintenance;
- Working knowledge of MARC21, AACR2, RDA, LCSH, and Dublin Core;
- Experience working with the staff modules of an integrated library system (ILS) or next generation system;
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
- Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity;
- Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a variety of methodologies;
- Willingness to participate in the development of online learning experiences.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

- Academic library experience;
- Working knowledge of OCLC Connexion and the ExLibris Voyager ILS;
- Experience with ILS migration;
- Knowledge of emerging library database technologies and trends;
- Experience working with an institutional repository and IR metadata;
- Experience working in a consortial library environment.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Professional duties may include: performing original and adaptive cataloging for all formats in compliance with national standards; developing, coordinating, and maintaining authority control processes; ensuring quality and accuracy of bibliographic and authority data in the integrated library system; providing leadership, training, and direction to staff in the unit, and working collaboratively to develop and document procedures related to acquisitions, cataloging, authority control, and processing of materials; advising management and colleagues on the establishment of policies for bibliographic control of library materials; leading in the management of HSU’s institutional repository, Humboldt Digital Scholar, and establishing workflows and standards for new digital projects and services; maintaining a current knowledge of developments and trends in cataloging, classification, subject analysis, metadata, bibliographic and authority control, and indexing; and other tasks as assigned as they relate to abilities and experience. Instructional assignments may include: Metadata and other workshops.

Librarians are members of the faculty at Humboldt State University (HSU) and their professional responsibilities include: maintaining excellence in librarianship; research, scholarship, and/or creative activity; service to the University, profession, and to the community; participation in campus and system-wide committees; being generally available in the University Library during business hours; working collaboratively and productively with colleagues; and actively participating in academic functions.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The HSU Library employs 31 personnel, including librarians and staff, plus student assistants, with a total annual budget of approximately $3 million, including $600,000 for information resources. The Library contains over 500,000 monographs, provides access to more than 160 databases (with full-text access to more than 88,000 electronic journals) and over 127,000 electronic books. In addition to its main monographic and periodicals collections, the Library has holdings of media, children’s literature, maps, photographs, and special collection and archival resources of regional and historic interest. The HSU Library is a selective United States federal and California State depository for government documents, serving Northwestern California.
