Title: Director of Library Business and Enterprise Services (DLBES)

Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian/Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Library Business and Enterprise Services (DLBES) serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the UCLA Library System. The DLBES provides leadership and vision and has overall responsibility for the business and fiscal operations of all Library departments (within Organization 8300), which includes 5 major departments: General Library (5400), Science Libraries (5415), Southern Regional Library Facility (5420), Library Reprographics Services (5460) and College Library Instructional Computing Commons (CLICC) (5465) and directly manages Library Business Services and Library Reprographic Services vision to shape Services.

Working closely with the University Librarian, Deputy University Librarian, senior management team, the Executive Director of Library Development, and the Library Office of Research Administration (LORA), provides assistance in the execution of fundraising strategies, the cultivation and stewardship of donors, and proposals to support the goals and activities of the department and Library. The DLBES works directly with units and department heads to develop goals, provide appropriate training and updates, and creates and deploys each unit's annual operating budget. The DLBES collaborates with other departments and units throughout the Library and across the campus and fosters a flexible, collaborative work environment, and a strong team spirit to establish and support creative initiatives and facilitate new partnerships and interdisciplinary projects.

The UCLA Library is an administrative organization, reporting to the Executive Vice-Chancellor and Provost, and it is primarily responsible for providing access to and delivery of information resources to the students, faculty, and staff of UCLA. The UCLA Library is recognized for its comprehensive collections, outstanding services, and innovative approaches to the changing landscape of scholarly communication. Its physical facilities function as dynamic, communal laboratories of ideas, experimentation, and breakthroughs, and the Library provides a robust infrastructure that supports digital research and scholarship. Its annual budget is more than $45 million, and it is a member of ARL, CNI, CRL, CLIR, IFLA, and SPARC. The organizational environment in the UCLA Library emphasizes creativity, excellence, collaboration, and experimentation with new approaches.
        Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in providing and managing financial management services in a large organization with an annual operating budget greater than $10 million.

        Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal and accounting operations and practices, preferably those in a public or private university and/or academic or research library. Demonstrated leadership ability, analytical skills, creative and innovative problem solving skills, and a strong commitment to service excellence.

        Evidence of competence in strategic planning, introducing and managing change in a complex environment, budget planning and allocation in a complex organization.

        Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and regulations, management and regulation of sales and service activities, and cash handling management and requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices pertaining to accounting transactions and internal controls.

        Ability to identify improvements required by statutory, auditing or other findings and practices and to implement or revise systems and workflows to achieve these improvements.


        Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and other information, problems, practices, or procedures to identify issues; articulate concerns; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recommend solutions.
