The City of Fort Worth Public Library is seeking a confident, energetic Senior Librarian to supervise the operations at one of its branch libraries. The successful candidate will be a skilled leader, supervisor and planner with a strong commitment to public service who can actively support business goals and objectives, make competent decisions, remain organized and meet deadlines. Furthermore, the individual should enjoy and feel comfortable working with a people of all ages, backgrounds and dispositions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•     Supervise and lead a team of library assistants, clerks and pages – assigning and reviewing work, writing schedules, developing goals and objectives, reviewing performance, training and increasing productivity.
•     Ensure that the public is receiving consistent, quality customer service.
•     Aggressively market and promote library programs, services and materials.
•     With the assistance of the Library Facilities Unit, oversee the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of one city facility.
•     Understand and ensure compliance with policies, procedures and guidelines, including those related to cash handling and cash management.
•     Plan, direct and participate in maintaining the library’s collections.
•     Using a wide range of digital and print resources, provide general and specific information services.
•     Respond to public concerns, inquiries and complaints, using tact, diplomacy and sound judgment.
•     Manage projects and special events – creating timelines, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
•     Track, log and submit requested statistics.

 

The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited college or universi¬ty with major course work in library and information scienc¬e. Two years’ increasingly responsible library experience.

Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience.

Preference may be given to applicants who speak, write and understand Spanish.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Library environment; exposure to computer screens; irregular working hours; travel to multiple locations.

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for extended periods of time; general manual dexterity; adequate eyesight, speech, and hearing.
