As the largest university library system in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, the University of Maryland Libraries serve more than 37,500 students and 4,200 faculty of the flagship College Park campus. The University of Maryland Libraries share the teaching, learning and research goals of the university. Its role as a key academic resource is evident in its service to the academic community and its actionable strategic plan. Recent membership in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a robust organization of Big Ten member institutions, is particularly meaningful to the University Libraries and will further propel the university’s ascendancy in academic excellence.

The Digital Programs and Initiatives (DPI) Manager is responsible for providing visionary leadership and oversight for the Digital Programs and Initiatives department. The DPI Manager initiates and is the first point of contact for all new digital projects and digital initiatives, and works with both internal and external project stakeholders to develop an achievable project plan guided by a clear project charter. Subsequently, the Manager monitors progress toward project milestones and coordinates with managers of participating departments to ensure timely progress toward completion, making necessary adjustments in keeping with the priorities of the UMD Libraries as a whole. This position serves as an essential communication channel between the Digital Systems and Stewardship division’s staff and stakeholders in the rest of the Libraries and beyond.

It is the role of the DPI Manager to keep current on technology trends, to identify possibilities for collaboration and partnership on digital initiatives within the UMD Libraries and externally, and to be proactive in ensuring that the UMD Libraries remain current and relevant with their digital collections and digital repositories and systems. The Manager will seek out new opportunities for UMD Libraries with emphasis on innovation, entrepreneurship, and new roles for academic libraries. In addition, the incumbent will serve as a public face for digital initiatives by representing the UMD Libraries on external committees, working groups, and other professional organizations as needed.
