Dominican University in River Forest, IL seeks applications for a tenure-track, non-ranked faculty positionin the Rebecca Crown Library. Review of applications will begin on Nov. 28, 2016 and will continue until the positions are filled.

Dominican University has been designated as a Hispanic Service Institution (HSI) and also serves a large number of first-generation college students. The Scholarly Communication and Digital Initiatives Librarian will be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. Bilingual/bicultural, Spanish-speaking candidates are highly encouraged to apply.


Scholarly Communication and Digital Initiatives Librarian
Job Components:
1.     Leads, advocates, and manages Library’s scholarly communication program, institutional repository service, and digital image collections.
2.     Works with academic departments, faculty, staff, and students to identify, acquire, preserve and provide discovery for the scholarly and creative output of Dominican University through Constellation.
3.     Collaborates with the University Archivist, Media Center Coordinator and student assistants to identify, digitize and provide discovery for the library’s special and archival collections through CONTENTdm and other digital collections software.
4.     Assists journal editors and authors on the creation and management of online journals published at Dominican University, using Open Journal Systems.
5.     Collaborates with the Office of Marketing and Communications and the Information Technology department on library projects and university-wide digital initiatives; ensures the library’s overall web presence follows Dominican brand and social media standards.
6.     Plans and conducts continual maintenance and assessment of the library’s web presence and content strategy, including iterative usability testing and design changes.
7.     Monitors best practices and emerging technologies and recommends, implements, and promotes new and innovative services.
8.     Teaches in the library instruction program as needed.
9.     Provides reference services in person, via email, chat, or phone. Shifts include evenings and weekends. Keeps current in research trends and reference material.
10.     Serves as subject liaison for select departments, working with the faculty to develop and maintain an appropriate core collection for each assigned department.
11.     Engages in teaching, research, and service in ways consistent with university tenure requirements. Participates in faculty governance.
12.     Other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
•     MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA- accredited program.
•     At least one year of experience working with web design.
•     Knowledge and understanding of scholarly communication and publishing, including open access and copyright, digital collections and metadata.
•     Knowledge of HTML/CSS, SQL or other scripting language. Familiarity with ILS, I-Share, ILLIAD, data analytics and SpringShare tools.
•     Familiarity with creating online content for mobile devices.
•     Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage projects, work collaboratively and independently with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
•     Knowledge of, or strong interest in learning, best practices for serving students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions as well as first generation college students.
•     Demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm in providing compassionate service and teaching to all library users. Must have a strong commitment to supporting cultural competencies, diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.
•      Demonstrated potential in teaching, research, and service in ways consistent with university tenure requirements.
Preference will be given to candidates with prior work experience with websites, usability testing, universal design, scholarly communications or digital initiatives projects.
