The Research and Education (RED) Division has four departments (Library Liaisons Program, Educational Initiatives, Knowledge Production, User Services) and three branch libraries (Architecture Studies Library, Music Library, and Teacher Development & Resources Library) and has 40 staff members, of which 21 are library faculty. The Research and Education Division (RED) fosters collaborations that contribute to our users' academic success, research, and lifelong learning and positively impacts student learning and supports the research and scholarly agenda of the University. This mission is realized through instruction of learners using a variety of methods and tools; partnerships with faculty to create an integrated, assessable, information literacy-focused curriculum; provision of targeted information resources; expert, point-of need research assistance; and a commitment to fostering competencies for lifelong inquiry. Based in the School of Architecture, the Architecture Studies Library is one of three branches on the main campus and serves the School of Architecture and its faculty and staff. ROLE of the POSITION Reporting to the Head of the Library Liaison Program, the Art, Architecture, and Design Librarian will support undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research in both the School of Architecture and Department of Art throughout the research lifecycle. Both academic programs are part of the College of Fine Arts - https://www.unlv.edu/finearts. The School of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture, landscape design, and interior design, including a master’s program; the Department of Art offers both undergraduate and graduate programs and a Master of Fine Arts degree. The School of Architecture and Department of Art are based on the Maryland Parkway campus. In addition, the incumbent will help to support the UNLV Downtown Design Center – https://unlvddc.com – which is a part of the School of Architecture and is located in downtown Las Vegas and the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art hi – https://www.unlv.edu/barrickmuseum – which is part of the College of Fine Arts and is located on the Maryland Parkway Campus. Liaison librarians serve as the primary contact between UNLV Libraries and their departments. The successful candidate will develop curriculum-integrated instructional sessions, provide research support and consultations, assist in the development of services and tools to facilitate scholarly communication, and maintain an effective collection in assigned disciplines. The incumbent will also participate in the Libraries' strategic initiatives to assess the needs of faculty and students. Based in the Architecture Studies Library, the incumbent will be responsible for general oversight of the branch and supervision of 1 FTE classified staff member (Library Technician II). The incumbent will work collaboratively with Knowledge Production faculty and staff to introduce and integrate emerging technologies such as data visualization, GIS, and virtual reality into the Architecture Studies Library and its programmatic initiatives. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude, and he or she will have a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels, as well as with a diverse faculty and students. As a tenure-track library faculty member, the incumbent will also be expected to engage in scholarly activities, including publication, and to provide service to the university, the community, and the profession in accordance with Libraries and University standards for promotion and tenure. QUALIFICATIONS Required Qualifications • A master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association to be awarded by date of appointment. • Demonstrated subject knowledge and familiarity with art, architecture, and design resources, understanding of discipline-specific research methodologies and practices, and experience managing art, architecture, and design materials in multiple formats. • Understanding of scholarly communication support for art, architecture, and design. • Familiarity with information literacy theory, practice, and assessment. • Knowledge of and/or familiarity with current and emerging technologies such as data visualization, GIS, and virtual reality and their use and application in art, architecture, design, and fine arts disciplines. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Ability to prioritize workload assignments. Preferred Qualifications • Relevant undergraduate or graduate degree in art, architecture, or design fields, or significant discipline-specific and relevant experience in an academic library. Graduate-level coursework OR degree in art or architecture preferred. • Demonstrated experience working in an academic or architecture library or archive, supporting faculty in the scholarly communication areas of research data management, management of researcher profiles, and/or open access. • Academic library experience with research assistance and information literacy instruction. • Competence and sensitivity in working at a university in which students, faculty, and staff are broadly diverse with regard to many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. SALARY RANGE This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at Rank II (equivalent to Assistant Professor). Salary range is $65,000 - $68,000. In addition, University Libraries is committed to and helps fund professional development opportunities. Salaries are competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Positions are contingent upon funding.
