ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL VACANCY
UNC Chapel Hill, University Library POSITION: NCDHC Digital Projects Librarian (At Will Appointment) AVAILABLE: March 1, 2013 The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an organized, collaborative, and collegial individual for the position of Digital Projects Librarian in the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center (http://digitalnc.org/). The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center is a statewide digital library program housed in the North Carolina Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill. The Digital Heritage Center provides digitization and digital publishing services to cultural heritage institutions across North Carolina. The Center has worked with more than 100 institutions around the state on a wide variety of digital projects. The Digital Projects Librarian and Program Coordinator work with staff in institutions and organizations throughout the state to develop and implement new digitization projects. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Digital Projects Librarian oversees and closely monitors all aspects of digital project work, including digitization of original materials, description of materials according to accepted metadata standards, and the online publication of digital objects using CONTENTdm or other digital collection management tools. This position is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student assistants. The Digital Projects Librarian plays a key role in outreach and communication and is in regular contact with the Digital Heritage Center’s many partners. Travel, including occasional overnight trips, is required. QUALIFICATIONS Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science. Experience working on digital collections in a library, museum, or archival setting, including the description of materials using accepted metadata standards. Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, to successfully balance competing priorities, and to work with inflexible deadlines. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment. Successful experience managing complex projects and/or workflows. Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision. Preferred: Experience working on multi-institution collaborative projects. Experience with the CONTENTdm digital collections management software. Knowledge of North Carolina history, literature, and culture.
