Job Title: Reference & Instructional Technology Librarian, Assistant Professor to Associate Professor




Campus: Long Island University, Brooklyn Library




Job duties:

LIU Brooklyn Library seeks a Reference & Instructional Technology Librarian for this tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will promote innovative methods of course delivery, instructional design, appropriate applications of technology, and progressive pedagogical methods within a Library setting and against the backdrop of the University’s blended and online environments. Additionally, the successful candidate will have had experience investigating, planning and implementing innovative uses of current and emerging technologies in the provision of information services and resources to meet the needs of users. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing both online and in-person reference and instruction services, which may include some nights and weekends; assisting with the creation and maintenance of digital learning objects (e.g. online tutorials); assisting in the development and delivery of information literacy instruction in the virtual environment; collection development; supporting both the development and expansion of current and new reference services, including roaming reference, chat and text reference; contributing to the ongoing development of the Brooklyn Library website; developing and participating in Library-sponsored workshops and programs; participating in both departmental and Library-wide committees; and collaboration with Library colleagues on other LIU campuses on programs and initiatives as needed.




Qualifications

Applicants should have a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution and at least three years’ relevant library and instructional experience, preferably in an academic library. The successful candidate should have experience with emerging technologies and digital learning objects (e.g. online tutorials) in an academic or library setting, as well as experience in library instruction and instructional design, and a familiarity with the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) information literacy standards. Candidates should have a knowledge of both print and electronic information sources and possess a strong service orientation with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to work individually, as well as in a group. (Thirty additional graduate credits beyond the MLS or a second master’s degree are required for assistant professor appointment).    




Preferred Qualifications

Training and/or experience in online instruction with learner-centered pedagogy, assessment and a second Master’s degree.   




Salary: Commensurate with experience.




Starting date: September 2013.
