TITLE: Undergraduate Experience Librarian
               Rutgers University Libraries

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Rutgers University Libraries seek an enterprising, forward thinking, service-oriented librarian to fill a newly established position spearheading undergraduate student engagement. Rutgers has recently transformed undergraduate education at its New Brunswick campus with a dramatic reshaping of academics and student life. Improved student services, a campus-wide honors program, first-year student seminars and interest groups, learning communities, and “discovery houses” are enriching the student experience and providing new opportunities for the Libraries to engage with the undergraduate community.
The Undergraduate Experience Librarian will
Explore and pilot new ways of engaging with a diverse undergraduate community in collaboration with librarians, teaching faculty, and synergistic campus partners (for example, Honors Programs, Aresty Research Center, McNair program, Future Scholars); build formal and informal relationships on campus that support student learning and engagement; develop programs to enhance the undergraduate experience.
Employ relevant technologies to enhance online and face-to-face engagement with various undergraduate communities ranging from freshman living on campus to transfer students to commuters.
Participate in ongoing library facilities planning activities to enhance undergraduate learning spaces.
Integrate undergraduate student programs into other library services and develop methods to measure and assess impact; work closely with the Instructional Design Librarian, Digital User Services Librarian, Undergraduate Experience team, and other colleagues, including librarians at our Camden and Newark locations.
Engage and collaborate actively as liaison to students, faculty and staff of the Department of Communication in the Rutgers School of Communication and Information, providing instruction and research consultations, and participating in collection development activities.
Participate in proactive user education program and provide a full range of in-person and virtual reference service.
This tenure-track position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Research & Instructional Services and is a member of the New Brunswick Libraries Faculty, a team of librarians committed to providing first-rate public services to a diverse academic community. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research including publications, presentations and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution or its equivalent is required. Experience engaging with undergraduate students in an academic setting is required. The successful candidate should exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff; demonstrate ability to build fruitful relationships and make savvy use of new technologies; and show evidence of outreach and student engagement activities. Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity as an organizational priority is required. Candidates who have had successful experience in the design and delivery of services for diverse populations will be given preference. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.

SALARY/STATUS: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BENEFITS: Faculty status, twelve-month appointment, retirement plan, life/health insurance, prescription drug, dental and vision plans, tuition remission, 22 vacation days annually.

LIBRARY PROFILE: The Rutgers University Libraries, comprising libraries on the University’s Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark campuses, all reporting to the Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian, operate as a unified library system with coordinated public, technical services, and collection development programs including digital initiatives and a pioneering institutional repository. The Libraries have highly valued staff of about 300 who are committed to developing innovations in access services, information literacy and digital initiatives. The Libraries operate with a budget of $28 million and outstanding collections especially in jazz and New Jerseyana. The Rutgers University Libraries are a member of ARL, CRL, Lyrasis, Metro, NERL, and VALE, and use Sirsi Dynix and OCLC as primary bibliographic utilities and Fedora repository software. In concert with the integration of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey into Rutgers University the libraries connected with those schools in Newark and New Brunswick will become part of the Rutgers University Libraries system as of July 1, 2013. The Rutgers University New Brunswick campus is the largest of the three regional campuses, supporting over 33,000 graduate and undergraduate students, in approximately 100 undergraduate programs, more than 80 graduate/professional programs, and 60 doctoral programs as a Carnegie Classification Research University (very high research activity) campus.
