Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels based on qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications for Librarian I:
Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited Program, or must be received with six (6) months of employment
(salary: $18.16 – $23.06)

Minimum Qualifications for Librarian II:
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university plus two (2) years experience as a professional librarian.
(salary: $19.99 – $25.38)

Licenses or Certifications:
May require a valid operator's license and the use of a personal vehicle.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stoop bend, walk, and reach heights of six (6) feet.
Must be able to lift or pull book bags and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to push loaded book truck up to three hundred (300) pounds.
Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard.
Notes to Applicants
This position serves as primary Youth Services Librarian in assigned Austin Public Library location(s), serving young people from birth through age 18 and their caregivers and other adult advocates.

Position may require traveling to other library locations for work related purposes. Top candidate will be required to provide a 3-year driving record before hire.

Pay Range
$19.99 – $25.38
FULL TIME 40 hours per week.

Position requires nights and weekend schedules (varied shifts).

Preferred Qualifications
Provide a full range of children’s services to the public, including delivering storytimes, booktalks, and facilitating programming for young people; and general reference and reader’s advisory.
Develop and facilitate programs tailored to meet the developmental and enrichment needs of infants and children and their caregivers.
Promote a love of reading through developing displays, activities for children, and resources for parents.
Stay current on knowledge about children’s literature; research on the developmental and learning needs of children of all ages and trends in the use of storytimes, booktalks, programming, technology, and publishing formats to promote the love of reading and to develop children’s reading skills.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Assists staff and public with use of electronic information sources, software, internet and research databases.
Provides assistance/instruction on use of library facilities and resources.
Develops and evaluates collections of library materials and selects appropriate materials for assigned collection.
Acquires, maintains, and assesses assigned collection.
Generates reports and statistics on programming, funding and collection.
Provides direct reference services to customers.
Uses personal computer to perform a variety of circulation or collection-related duties.
Compiles bibliographies and user guides. Performs original and edit cataloging.
Resolves cataloging problems and maintains online public catalog.
Appraises, organizes and processes special archival collections. Provides basic conservation of archival materials.
Conducts meetings, training sessions and public programs.
Schedules, coordinates and promotes library programming for assigned group.
