The California State University, Los Angeles University Library seeks a creative, collaborative and user-centered librarian to develop and implement strategies that guide the ways in which the library acquires, manages and provides access to library collections and resources that support and advance the research and curricular needs of the University. With a materials budget in excess of $1.5 million, the Collections Strategies Librarian will provide leadership for the management, development and assessment of the library’s collections, including the planning and implementation of the library’s institutional repository. The incumbent will bring a forward-thinking, innovative and strategic perspective in the library’s approach to collection development that is both learner-centered and responsive to the University’s curriculum. The librarian will exercise broad independent judgement under the general direction of the Associate Dean, and with guidance from the Dean.

The Department:
As the academic heart of the university, the University Library’s mission is to advance intellectual discovery, stimulate creativity, inspire learning and transform Cal State LA’s diverse communities by connecting people to knowledge, providing learner-centered spaces and delivering innovative and responsive services. The University Library is undergoing rapid transformation with new leadership, a recently completed strategic plan, a growing team of passionate, collaborative and forward-thinking library faculty and staff, and a deep commitment to improving student success and supporting faculty excellence. An ambitious architectural master plan is scheduled to begin in early 2018 that will provide an exciting and transformative vision for renewing the library’s physical spaces to accommodate the growing needs of Cal State LA’s students and faculty. As part of the master plan, an academic success center will be developed that will provide comprehensive and fully integrated peer-to-peer academic success services for students. Librarians at Cal State LA enjoy full faculty status and are eligible for campus professional development/funding opportunities, sabbatical leave, university-wide service, and other benefits.
