Director for Administrative Services



The University of Arkansas Libraries invites applications from and nominations of experienced, highly-motivated, and innovative professionals for the position of Director for Administrative Services. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Director will play a critical role in continuing the evolution of a 21st century research library at the University. As a member of the Libraries Administrative Group, the Director works collaboratively to achieve the strategic goals of the Libraries. The Libraries underwent a significant reorganization in 2012. As a result, the Libraries are poised for transformational change in the provision of services, collections, and instruction. Through the incorporation of assessment into all aspects of services, the Director will play an important role in maintaining the momentum gained in the reorganization process by helping move the Libraries forward.



The Libraries seek an individual with an inclusive leadership style and strong communication skills, including the ability to consider issues from a variety of perspectives. This position oversees and coordinates the operations of budget, accounting, and procurement; space planning and facilities maintenance (including Mullins Library, the Fine Arts Library, the Chemistry & Biochemistry Library, the Physics Library, and a remote storage facility); assessment; and data collection. The Director plays a leadership role in the formulation and assessment of Libraries-wide services, policies, and diversity initiatives.   The Director must embrace, model, and encourage teamwork, collaboration, relationship-building, and mentoring. The Director must be committed to user-centered services and facilities and will collaborate with library and campus constituencies to develop strategic directions and ensure service quality.



Responsibilities of this position include research and creative work and service in keeping with the faculty requirements of the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate must have demonstrated accomplishments in performance, scholarly activity, and professional service to meet criteria for appointment at the level of librarian/professor and with tenure. A dossier will be required for appointment and hiring.



Qualifications. Required: A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; a minimum of ten years of experience in an academic or research library with a proven record of successful leadership and demonstrated ability to manage librarians and staff. Experience that can demonstrate knowledge of budget and accounting practices and assessment tools in an academic library and knowledge of current practices and trends in the design and use of library facilities. Demonstrated success in leading and fostering innovation in a rapidly changing and complex environment; and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Record of achievement sufficient for appointment at the rank of Librarian / Professor.   Preferred: Familiarity with statistical analysis; experience with library building renovations and expansions; and knowledge of current practices and trends in the delivery of information resources, services, and instruction in an academic and/or research environment.



Rank and Salary: Tenure-track, twelve-month faculty appointment at the rank of Librarian / Professor. Minimum salary: $90,000.



Benefits: Relocation allowance available. Benefits include TIAA/CREF, Fidelity Mutual Fund, or the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System, 22 days of annual leave, tuition reduction, and health insurance.
