Alda Allina Migoni Statement
Alda Allina Migoni
Nominee for REFORMA Member-At-Large Representative
(Statement from 2019 Election - Running for re-election)
Dear members of REFORMA,
I would like to first thank you for the nomination to serve as a Member-at-Large Representative for REFORMA.
As an early career librarian, I have had the opportunity in a just few short years to meet many of you through professional associations, scholarship communities, conferences, and as friends. If selected to serve as Member-at-Large for REFORMA, I would continue to build connections and be part of the inclusive network and support system that is REFORMA. I am excited to continue the collaboration and open communication that is expected of Member-at-Large, and I will do so by working with members directly. I will ensure that members are heard, and that we as a community develop strategy to meet the needs of all of our members nationally.
I am currently an acquisitions librarian for the South America Section at the Library of Congress. In May, I will begin the position of reference librarian for the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. There I will work with the collections focused on the cultures and traditions of Latin America and Latinxs in the U.S. In this position, I hope to continue to build community through collection building to ensure our populations are adequately represented in our national library, and by serving national and international Latinx populations through coalition building.
Since January 2018, I have been the president of the Hispanic Cultural Society at the Library of Congress, where I have helped create and facilitate multiple events dedicated to Latinx/Latin American populations. My goal has always been to enhance our representation at the Library of Congress, as well as create a collection and public events that will foster a connectivity that goes beyond the Library’s walls. I know what it is like to make space for our colleagues, continue open dialogues despite institutional barriers, and ensure that we foster equitable and supportive spaces for people to grow as professionals and as community members. I am deeply committed to the promotion of awareness of our field and our services to Latinxs, and to the strengthening of our professional connections across institutions. Professional organizations such as REFORMA have mentored and helped me both as a student, and now as a professional, and I hope to be able to give back in the position of Member-At-Large.
Thank you for your support as a professional association and as a family. I am truly honored by the potential opportunity to serve as Member-At-Large for REFORMA.
Sincerely,
-Alda Allina Migoni
