Loanis Menendez-Cuesta Delray Beach Public Library REFORMA de Florida President, 2011

The re-activation of the REFORMA de Florida started on Wednesday May 4th, during the 2011 Florida Library Association Conference, where a group of Florida Reformistas met in the capacity of a Formation Committee in order to re-establish a REFORMA Chapter in the State of Florida, REFORMA de Florida.

Representatives of the REFORMA de Florida Chapter submitted an official request to the REFORMA National’s Board of Directors to reactivate the chapter during the American Library Association Annual Conference on Sunday, June 26th, 2011, in New Orleans.  The vote was unanimous!

Our first objective is to facilitate communication among members in order to promote the vision of REFORMA de Florida.  Venues for this objective include the subscription to the Latino Library Services listserv; online meeting platforms, the updating of the REFORMA de Florida webpage; and the updating and promotion of the chapter’s existing Facebook page.  In addition, we will work to promote REFORMA de Florida’s mission to recruit new members and promote the library and information services to the Latino and Spanish speaking communities in the State of Florida.

On behalf of the new Board of Officers of REFORMA de Florida, I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all the members of the Formation Committee and REFORMA National Board of Directors for their shared vision in making REFORMA de Florida possible!
