REFORMA Children in Crisis Task Force Awarded Believe in Reading Grant

Anaheim, CA - REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking, is pleased to announce that the REFORMA Children in Crisis Task Force has been awarded a $5,000 grant by The Believe in Reading Organization. These funds will support the purchase and delivery of books to unaccompanied refugee children.

The arrival of tens of thousands of children crossing the southern border into the United States created an unprecedented humanitarian refugee crisis that continues today. REFORMA Children in Crisis was established in 2014 to solicit donations, purchase and deliver books for children in detention centers, shelters, law offices, and group homes around the country. The Children in Crisis Task Force's mission is to get books into the hands of these children, ensure that they have access to storytime materials, and to make all the recent arrivals aware of the wealth of library resources that are available to them here in the United States.

Believe In Reading is funded by The Steve and Loree Potash Family Foundation, and is based in Cleveland, Ohio. Believe in Reading funds excellent programs dedicated to the teaching and encouragement of reading for all ages anywhere in the world. They award a select number of grants four times a year. Upon reception of the grant, co-chairs of the Children in Crisis Task Force, Patrick Sullivan and Oralia Garza de Cortes stated: “This donation will permit us to reach out to other shelters in Arizona and other states and get the books into the hands of the children in need. We are extremely grateful to Believe in Reading for their support of REFORMA's efforts to help the Central American children.”
