Kenny Garcia Statement
Dear Reformistas,
It is an honor to be nominated to serve as REFORMA’s Secretary. As Secretary and member of the Executive Committee, I would continue the amazing work already being done to support Latinx librarians and other librarians interested in working with Spanish speaking library patrons.

I am currently a Reference and Instruction Librarian at California State University – Monterey Bay. It’s a small, comprehensive university and a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI). I have been a member of REFORMA since 2011. I started as a member of the Los Angeles chapter and currently a member of the Bibliotecas para la Gente chapter. I have been serving on the Organizational Development and New Chapters Committee since 2014. I have learned a lot from Reformistas and continue to be inspired by the work being done in each region and by the new chapters being set up across the United States.
I have served as secretary for the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Diversity Committee, and I’m currently serving as secretary for ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) Action Council. It would be an honor and privilege to serve as Secretary for REFORMA.
If I am elected as Secretary, I commit to communicating with the general membership on actions taken by the Executive Committee at the ALA Midwinter and Annual Conference, as well as sharing what was discussed at the General Membership meetings during these conferences. I would also commit to reviewing and revising the REFORMA Manual, which has not been updated since 2008. It’s important to strive to be better at transparency and accountability, and it is something we can accomplish together. There is strength in unity.
¡Pa'lante, Siempre Pa'lante!
