Cynthia Bautista Statement

Cynthia Bautista
Nominee for REFORMA Chapter Representative—Western Region

Statementof Purpose
Dear Reformistas:
My name is Cynthia Bautista, and I am running for REFORMA Chapter Representative for the Western Region.
I am the Youth and Family Services Coordinator for the Long Beach Public Library. The City of Long Beach, CA is known to be one of the most diverse cities in the country.  Working in such a diverse community gives me the opportunity to work closely with the Latino population.  I am very passionate about my profession and believe it is important to reach out to our Spanish Speaking communities and encourage parents to read with their children, and to visit their local library to take advantage of the various programs and services we have to offer.

I have learned so much from my fellow Reformistas on improving and creating services to Latinos and the Spanish speaking throughout my career. I have been an active member of the Los Angeles Chapter of REFORMA ever since I was an MLIS student at San Jose State University, about 10 years ago.  I have served as Vice President, President, and Past President of the Los Angeles Chapter. I have also served as co-chair of the Keynote Speaker Committee for RNC V, and chair of the Fundraising Committee for REFORMA from 2014 to 2016.

As Chapter Representative for the Western Region, I would work to unite the chapters by keeping them informed and connected to each other and the rest of the organization.  It would be an honor for me to represent the chapters in the Western Region and work closely with the Executive Board to continue to bring forward the mission of REFORMA.
