Kenny Garcia
Nominee Vice President/President-Elect
Dear Reformistas,
It is an honor to be nominated to serve as Vice President/President Elect for REFORMA.
I am currently a Research and Instruction Librarian at California State University – Monterey Bay (CSUMB), which is a small, comprehensive university designated as a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI). I have been a REFORMA member since 2011 as a past member of the REFORMA Los Angeles chapter, and currently as a member of the Bibliotecas Para La Gente chapter. I currently serve on the REFORMA Organizational Development and New Chapters Committee and ending my term this year as REFORMA Secretary. One goal that I will continue working on is the revision of the organizational manual. REFORMA experienced heartbreaking challenges last year that I know we can learn and grow from to become a more organized, supportive, and transparent organization not just for our members, but for the patrons and communities we serve.
I will also be completing my term this year as the ALA Social Responsibility Round Table coordinator, which is currently the second-largest round table in the association. I have served as chair of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Diversity Committee, and currently chairing the library diversity committee at Cal State-Monterey Bay. I’m also currently serving as Treasurer for the campus chapter of the California Faculty Association, which represents all of the faculty members, librarians, counselors, and coaches that work at CSUMB. It would be an honor and privilege to continue serving on the REFORMA Executive Committee as Vice President/President Elect.
Together we can continue working on strengthening REFORMA to ensure that current, lifelong, and future REFORMA members will be supported and that Latinx and Spanish-speaking patrons continue to be supported through culturally competent programs, advocacy, and celebrations at all of our libraries.
I humbly ask for your support as I run for this important leadership position. La lucha sigue!
