Ruby L. Nugent
Nominee for Secretary
It is with great honor that I submit my intent to serve on the REFORMA National Executive Committee as Secretary. REFORMA has been established as leader in library services to Spanish-speaking communities of the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as building important relationship with others world-wide. In today’s political and social climate, this type of advocacy and enthusiasm is needed more than ever. My interest in serving on the Executive Committee extends both my life-long professional work and personal passion for meeting the needs of this underserved population.
As a paralibrarian for almost 20 years, I have spent much of that time thoroughly involved with the REFORMA Colorado chapter, serving as an officer twice, as well as contributing to conference planning for both local and national REFORMA events. During that time, I also participated by attending presenting at a wide variety of local and national conferences and always representing myself as a member of REFORMA Colorado. I am confident hose I have worked with over the years can attest to my passion and involvement as a committed member and my dedication to the mission of advocacy on a variety of levels through my work.
Recently, I have moved from Colorado to Arizona after being awarded a Knowledge River Scholarship as part of Cohort 16 and have become a full time graduate student at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I believe being part of REFORMA is the best way for me to remain informed and abreast of current events, trends, and challenges in library services for the Spanish-speaking community. If elected, I commit to continuing the work of the organization, contribute my voice as both a graduate student and an officer, and advocate the importance of membership to my colleagues and classmates. I thank you for your consideration and look forward to having that opportunity.
