The University of Nevada, Las Vegas University Libraries seeks applications for a Design Lab Specialist to join a newly-formed department dedicated to facilitating innovative knowledge creation through curricular integration, community-driven learning spaces, and specialized technology. The individual hired will have an opportunity to contribute to this new enterprise and gain valuable experience a fast-paced and emerging area at the UNLV Libraries. Role of the Position

As a key member of the newly-formed Department of Knowledge Production, the Design Lab Specialist will plan, provide, and maintain efficient access to the UNLV Libraries Design Lab. This new, multimillion dollar space will be dedicated to connecting students, faculty, staff, and community users with hardware and software to support knowledge production across disciplines and beyond.

The Design Lab Specialist serves as a consultant to individuals, project teams, and classes. Additionally, the Specialist will investigate and evaluate emerging technologies for potential adoption, develop online learning objects, coordinate projects, and supervise students working as peer technology consultants.


Required Qualifications

•     A bachelor's degree from an accredited university
?     Demonstrated proficiency with any combination of contemporary operating systems including macOS and Windows
?     Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects) as well as Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and GarageBand
?     Working knowledge of encoding and transcoding different media formats using a variety of software
?     Working knowledge of principles and practices of 3D printing, scanning, and design software
?     Proficiency in the principles and workflow practices for large-format scanning and printing
?     Aptitude for developing and supporting community-driven learning environments
?     Demonstrated capacity and skill to teach and engage students in ways that contribute to student success
?     Ability to educate and train faculty, staff, and students in individual and group settings
?     Possess the initiative, flexibility, and creativity to manage projects both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment
?     Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
?     Excellent oral and written communication skills
?     Knowledge of productivity software, e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Apps


Preferred Qualifications

?     Ability to use technology in creative ways to solve problems and facilitate workflow. Record of developing and implementing new ideas in a complex, knowledge-creating organization preferred
?     Working knowledge of virtual reality hardware such as HTC VIVE and Oculus Rift as well as virtual reality development software such as Rhino, or Unity 3D
?     Interest in UX design principles for prototyping and idea development
?     One year of relevant work experience in an academic library
?     Experience related to the assessment of instructional initiatives
?     Experience managing student employees
?     Knowledge of current best practices related to multimedia, including copyright, intellectual property and privacy laws as they relate to published and unpublished materials
?     Educational background in graphic design or videography


Salary Range

This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative faculty position. Salaries are competitive and commensurate with labor market. The salary range for this position starts at $40,000. Position is contingent upon funding. The University Libraries offers attractive professional development opportunities.
