Title:           Data Warehouse Architect
Category:     Contingent Contractual 1
Department:     Digital Systems and Stewardship

As the largest university library system in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, the University of Maryland Libraries serve more than 37,500 students and 4,200 faculty of the flagship College Park campus. The University of Maryland Libraries share the teaching, learning and research goals of the university. Its role as a key academic resource is evident in its service to the academic community and its actionable strategic plan. Recent membership in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a robust organization of Big Ten member institutions, is particularly meaningful to the University Libraries and will further propel the university’s ascendancy in academic excellence.

University of Maryland Libraries' Digital Systems and Stewardship (DSS) Division provides systems support and development services to the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Library Consortium (usmai.org). This 6-month contract position will work independently and collaboratively with DSS team members and staff at USMAI libraries to implement a data warehouse (DW) and business intelligence (BI) solution that addresses the short-term needs and long-term vision for data use and analysis by the consortium’s 17 member libraries.

The project involves establishment of a DW/BI program and completion of an initial data project. The Data Warehouse Architect is expected to lead the defining of program and project-level requirements, as well as lead design activities for technical architecture, data modeling, and BI tools. The Architect will work closely with developers and systems staff on the DW/BI implementation and ETL processes for selected data. The incumbent will be relied upon as an expert during all phases of the project.

Business analysis and requirements definition activities are essential components of the work and will require in-person meetings with staff and administrators at USMAI libraries located throughout the state of Maryland. Expenses for travel accommodations within Maryland State guidelines will be covered. Some telework is possible.

At USMAI’s discretion, project success may lead to awarding of one additional 6-month contract for subsequent data warehouse projects.
