Librarian (PLB1-3A) or Specialist Librarian (PLB2-4A)

Position Description: The Undergraduate Engagement Librarian is a member of the Research & Library Instruction (RLI) unit at the Main Library. RLI has three teams (International & Area Studies, Teaching & Learning, and Undergraduate Research & Experience). This position reports to the Undergraduate Experience & Research (URE) Team Leader, and focuses on building connections, developing programs, and promoting the role of the library as both an academic and nonacademic partner in support of undergraduate student success. The UEL is responsible for the design and implementation of innovative library services and instruction programs aimed at undergraduate students, especially within the Rhetoric and the General Education curricula. The UEL works collaboratively with colleagues in the libraries and beyond to enhance undergraduate student engagement. The UEL works with other RLI staff to accomplish the unit’s initiatives, and works to accomplish Libraries’ initiatives outside of RLI by serving on Libraries’ and campus-wide committees. Specific responsibilities include:

Specific responsibilities and duties include:
·        Facilitate the library efforts for the undergraduate’s first-year experience and other undergraduate student activities in collaboration with the URE Team, library liaisons, and campus partners;
·        Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty in support of campus teaching and student-centered learning;
·        Develop materials and provide instruction for library-sponsored courses, embedded partnerships with faculty, general workshops, and orientation and outreach activities;
·        Work with RLI and others to assess the impact of the Libraries' efforts to serve undergraduates through programs, resources, and learning spaces;
·        Participate in Libraries’ initiatives outside of RLI by serving on Libraries’ and campus committees and contributing to other relevant activities and events;
·        Contribute to and learn from the profession through such avenues as local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications.
·        Provides general research support services (in-person, email, chat).

Required Qualifications
·        Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
·        For appointment at the Specialist Librarian (II) level, two or more years of professional library experience is also required along with an emphasis of experience in instruction and/or outreach.
·        Ability to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration and cooperation are essential.
·        Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines.
·        Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills; evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.
·        Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
·        Demonstrated interest in professional development that will enhance the candidate’s value to the Libraries, the University, and the profession.

Preferred Qualifications
·        Experience with instruction and/or outreach to undergraduates (or equivalent) is a preferred qualification for appointment at the Librarian (I) level.
·        Familiarity with information literacy and instructional technology concepts, pedagogies, and assessment, especially assessment of student learning.
·        Knowledge of current developments in library instruction, student development, and undergraduate student success initiatives.
·        Experience working with undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
·        Experience in planning and/or providing instruction.

Salary and appointment: Start date is negotiable. Appointment will be made at the Librarian (I) or Specialist Librarian (II) level. Salary ranges: Librarian $47,476-$49,000 or Specialist Librarian $50,000 - $64,000.
