Systems Analyst/Programmer
Arthur W. Diamond Law Library, Columbia University Libraries

Columbia Law School's Arthur W. Diamond Law Library seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Analyst/Engineer/Programmer to join the Library Systems Unit of the Technical Services Department on or after July 1, 2018. Reporting to the Systems Librarian, the incumbent prepares and deploys Linux server systems, develops and deploys applications, and performs maintenance on both as required, with a focus on maximizing security, usability, and uptime; assists in strategizing for Library server and application needs, including vendor services as needed; documents and provides support for Library Systems projects and services; works both independently and as part of a team or under supervision; and collaborates on projects and related activities with both internal and external units.
The incumbent works closely with the Systems Librarian and the Coordinator for Electronic Resources and performs all of the various duties of the Library Systems Unit as needed. Duties may be highly technical and/or involve providing support with a service-oriented demeanor to colleagues or users with differing levels of technical knowledge.

Detailed responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Deploy, upgrade, document, troubleshoot, monitor, secure, optimize, test, and maintain Library virtual servers. Develop new routines and workflows as necessary.
- Develop, modify, migrate, implement, troubleshoot, secure, support, test, and document software applications on Library servers. Develop new routines and workflows as necessary.
- Assist with integrated library system coordination, configuration, enhancement, and support. Assist with planning, data migrations, front end development, and development and support of ancillary utilities and services as necessary. Communicate with vendors as needed.
- Support the technical needs of library staff as necessary. Coordinate those needs with IT staff if required. Assist with reporting and small data mining. Perform data transformations as required through scripting and/or office productivity tools. Provide troubleshooting, training, and documentation when appropriate.
- Communicate and coordinate efforts with vendors, Library staff, and IT staff as required to identify and resolve systems level issues, and to coordinate the timing and structure of server-related projects and events. May be required to participate in evening or weekend downtime activities.
- Assist Systems Librarian with long- and short-term strategizing for library systems and formulating recommendations for the Library.
- Assist with electronic resources and cloud services coordination, access maintenance, and troubleshooting as necessary. Communicate with vendors as needed.
- Participate in meetings to inform the management and decision-making of the Library, including but not limited to the Operations Group and Technical Services professional staff meetings.
- Assist with troubleshooting and performing/coordination of maintenance of library equipment.
- Perform other Library tasks as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum three years' related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In-depth knowledge of LAMP environment
- Experience developing web applications including server scripts, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with the design and programming of relational database applications.
- Ability to perform systems analysis and programming independently under general direction.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize documentation such as software manuals, release notes, and programming language documentation.
- Familiarity with office productivity software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to balance priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate frequently with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with integrated library systems.
- Experience with web server administration and systems monitoring.
- Knowledge of security measures for servers and applications.
- Experience with Linux shell-scripting and PHP.
- Experience with OOP.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and/or CentOS
- Knowledge of the MARC record format.
- Experience with utilities such as MarcEdit and text editors with regular expression features.
- Library education or experience.
- Lift up to 60 pounds.
