Library Director – Joplin Public Library (MO)

Choose Joplin Public Library (MO) - A thriving library in a thriving community! Join the Joplin Public Library as its next Library Director. The nine-member Board of Trustees seeks a smart, seasoned professional to lead the Library into its future from a stunning 57,000 sq. ft. contemporary library which opened in May 2017. Funded by $12 million federal grant, the Library is a destination offering current technologies in its new maker space, collaborative group spaces, and strong collections. The Library has an excellent staff with a strong customer service focus and a unique partnership with the Post Art Library, a privately endowed 501(c)3 not-for-profit housed in the public library, providing public access to arts-related resources and programs. The Library operates on a $2.2 million annual budget with a committed staff of 17FTE. Key opportunities include creating and expanding external partnerships with local agencies and organizations, visioning and implementing a new strategic plan, and seeking new funding sources—including the possibility of a tax levy increase in the next two to three years.

Joplin is “A Thriving Community of Great Neighbors” and a crossroad of culture tucked away in the Ozarks of Southwest Missouri where Interstate 44, Interstate 49, and Historic Route 66 unite in an up- and-coming community. Joplin residents (50,175) enjoy small town living with big city amenities. The community boasts excellent public schools, health care, and four colleges and universities. There are also cultural and recreational amenities to explore including public art, arthouse cinemas, the Murphysburg Historic District, Shoal Creek, and many trails to enjoy beautiful southern Missouri. Joplin has a low cost of living and an energized, vital Downtown blooms daily as artists, chefs and entrepreneurs invent new ways of resurrecting century-old structures. Enjoy historic preservation mixed with contemporary living. For more information on the Joplin Public Library and the City of Joplin, please see Joplin Links.
